I can't completely remember if you actually need the pie shop or not, but I think that's only needed for miss popular. Friend levels are also only needed for the miss popular ending and nothing else. The hotspring is only needed if you're specifically going for that ending or want to craft the last costume shop.

In the U.S. version they said she was 17 in the beginning of Atelier Rorona, but she was actually 14 years old. 3 years pass as you complete the game, so canonically she is 17 when the game is over (Totori takes place 5 years later which is why she's 22) but in the NA version she is implied to be 20. They seemed to stop caring about the minor censorship detail in later games. I guess they just thought people (i.e., reviewers) would be upset if some characters (mostly Astrid) made suggestive comments about a 14 year old.

Ehh...you can enjoy most of Shallies story without playing the other dusk games. But you will miss out on some interactions between returning characters. Especially with Logy and Ayesha coming back, I bet they'll have a few extra scenes with them.
I do think Shallie was one of the better Dusk games just because the other Dusk games weren't that great.

This is the entire Arland story. Atelier games are split up into trilogies and no characters re-appear save a ghost named Pamela through all of them. Similar to Anna in fire emblem or Nurse Joy in Pokemon. Logy re-appears in Sophie but I haven't seen anything about if it's the same person.
Arland is more cute girls doing cute things while learning alchemy, while the newer Dusk series is cute adult girls and a boy adventuring to figure out why the world is turning to shit.

If you only have a PS3, then yeah it's fine to play the regular versions. You are missing some things like costumes and a new ending for Meruru. But they do run better than the vita counterparts.
Meruru will spoil the true end for Totori. And most of your party will be returning characters from Totori. Well, Gino, Mimi, and Totori at least. I don't remember who else. You won't really get their backstory without playing Totori first.

The plus games are mainly on vita. Rorona isn't which had the biggest upgrade. You mostly miss out on postgame stuff, playable characters and DLC outfits if you play on PS3 for Totori / Meruru. Rorona is the first game in the trilogy so you can just play Rorona plus on PS3 and see if you like it.

About 6 hours into Totori myself. Expect more freedom in the progression. You'll still do quests like in Rorona+ but there's a far greater emphasis on exploring new areas. Whereas Rorona+ is about completing assignments on a strict schedule, Totori basically says "here's a license to adventure and 3 years, don't fuck up", so depending on how you felt about Rorona+'s focused assignment design, Totori can either be a freeing experience or an overwhelming nightmare. Aside from that, it's basically more Atelier. Same cozy atmosphere, same kind of characterization and interactions, similar general mechanics, etc.

Tamsoft developed 2 over a two year period, which isn't that bad. Then you got Felistella who developed 4 games over a 3 year period. All in all, even if you were to compare this to Mario or FF, the spinoffs and main games are sparsely populated enough that their release schedule doesn't look so fucking inflated. Rorona comes before Totori chronologically but Totori got its Plus version first because vanilla Rorona was so fucked that it got a full blown remake instead of a simple Plus version. If you want to follow the Plus titles in terms of mechanical refinement then start with Totori but the trilogy proper begins with Rorona.

The way those games work is that the protagonist of the prequel is the teacher of the maincharacter from the game you're playing. So if you start with Totori you'll have Rorona as your teacher and they expect you to know the people already that are in those games since they all take place in the same kingdom and they were introduced in rorona.

I currently have the game launched at pretty much the same point (11/29/4). Beat this fucker with Mimi-40/Totori-40/Melvia-38, platine weapons on them all, and dragonscale armor with defense +10, +5, sturdy only on Mimi and Melvia (needed 11 days to copy another dragon scale which is the exact time to get to that boss).
And some bombs, mind water, and heals.
Still wasn't easy.
Unless you have all that or at least some high tier bombs, don't bother.

I'm focusing on the equipment that carries over to NG+ to do it as fast as possible. Which is armor, weapons, accessories.
I also personally hate usable items of any kind in any game and they aren't really necessary until endgame.

I began just focusing on equipment at this point, too. I got the Velvetine (the one above the cloth you need the dragon drop for, since i can't beat the dragon either despite having Platine weapons with anti-dragon properties) armor and aformentioned Platine Weapons. I've been using Sterk and Melvia, with all three in the 30's.
What's the best healing items, then? Where do you get the recipes for them? I think I'm using sub-standard ones there as well.
I think it's neat how the animations of your items change depending on the quality of them. Tera bombs can nuke fucking landmasses when at 120quality.

Yes E&L+ is the one I ordered. Its not so much I want all the physical, just I need the limited editions.
I only got non-plus Rorona, Totori, and Meruru before I knew there were plus versions coming.
I love the series, I just need to get past Rorona+ which is my least liked Arland game. Maybe I should just move on since I already beat the original Rorona, been craving Totori+ badly. And I never started Meruru yet.
