The former feels like it was made with intention of being an artistic endeavor before being an enjoyable game , giving it a sense of pretentiousness to me. The latter feels like it was made to be a game first with its aesthetic and stylistic value made after the game has been set in place, making it a puzzle, climbing, and horse-riding game with an interesting setting.
in a game I look for a challenge; not to play a "hard" game but to be expected to put in effort to achieve a goal. SOTC offers that while also putting that game in an interesting context with its art style. The Beginers Guide feels more like the creators intent on telling a story in the context of multiple incomplete games. Its an interactive experience but you are never challenged nor expected to achieve a certain goal. Its an interactive story, not a game.

Yeah I totally agree. I personally think that when games can evenly balance every aspect such as music, art, graphics, writing, etc, that's when the game becomes art, at least for me. Problem is games tend to just focus on a few areas, while the others suffer for it.
