Sony saw this coming, wanting to avoid a repeat of last gen, did everything Microsoft should've done. They focused on games, exclusive games, made sure PS+ cost less than XBL, and so on.
Microsoft is a similar position that Nintendo is in, except they have no marketable IP's outside of Halo, Gears, Forza, and B&K, all of which are vastly outsold by their competitors or don't exist. Microsoft needs to pull some serious magic out of their asses if they want to compete, because they've been selling the X1 on almost nothing but brand loyalty up til now.

Well they already removed the kinect bullshit and the always online drm they tried to pull in the beginning. Even so it's not doing that well in comparison with the PS4 so it's save to say that It'll be hard to regain the preexisting consumers trust (read that as people who buy consoles for video games).
First I'd make all that media nonsense optional. You want it? Go to the system options and download the software. Don't want it? Okay no problem, it's there if you want it, free of charge. (The app, not the service itself of course).
We would need to push out a new image that the xbone is going back to being about games and then follow through with that promise and coordinate with developers to get new IPs up and running.
After that I'd push for having money that comes in from the membership dues to go towards dedicated servers for the high profile games such as halo, cod, and gow and the sports games.

For starters, they got rid of their Kinect shit so that's a start.
They have exclusives but they're very obviously western oriented with things like Forza, Halo, Gears, Quantum Break, Crackdown, and Sunset Overdrive.
More Japanese oriented games need to be made, more so than just VNs, but a few big spectacular JRPGs with easier action combat that gets the casual Japanese audience to buy it because it is the hottest new thing. Also a fighter to compete on the 3D field, possibly buying the Virtua Fighter IP and making inputs a little easier to get more people in competitively.
Another possibility is a straight smash clone of MS owned characters that plays functionally like Melee. Hardcore autists will eat it up and casuals can still play because the smash bros formula is as basic as it gets. Pay for a spot at Evo after a year of release and you're golden.
Continue making interesting special edition consoles with major releases, especially 3rd parties because they sell the most.
Continue with their release schedule of exclusives they already have lined up and don't stop that train from rolling along.
As for Europe, FIFA deals and buy some Sega IPs. If Jet Set and Crazy Taxi get brought back with no kikestarter campaigns, people will jizz on cue and buy xbones.

Because...
1. Release a redesigned Xbox One. Give it beefier hardware that is compatible with everything already released. Make it slightly smaller in the process. I'm still keeping that power brick outside of the system box though. Don't need to run into RRoD issues. ALL games should be able to run @ 60 fps @ 1080p on the new hardware.
2. Invest in studios to make Xbox One exclusives. TRUE exclusives. None of this "timed exclusive" or "exclusive + PC version". Also bankroll small indie studios with unique game ideas in exchange for making their indie games Xbox exclusives.
3. Tell 343i to stop fucking around. Make them release a free and optional DLC that re-skins characters from Halo 4 and 5 back to the aesthetic designs of Halo 3. This optional free DLC would also re-do the horrible "fight" scenes from Halo 5 and would also fix Cortana's face so that she looks like she did in Halo 2 or 3 (her new body style can remain the same). Also force every high level employee working at 343i to write an essay telling me what they believe Halo and/or Master Chief is all about. Anyone that doesn't talk about themes of heroism, duty, honor, sacrifice, or the "dance of combat" is demoted to junior positions or fired entirely.
