What do you mean by level up? Character doesn't have levels, only Sigils. And they have requirements like that. Kill X for Fire, Damage Y HP for Lightning, etc... They are not that ridiculous and leveling is not that important.

The later requirements were retarded as hell. You'd have to kill thousands of enemies to increase your level by one. That's probably the entire amount of enemies you'll face in the entire game.

It doesn't really play like DM unfortunately.
The spell customization is not as varied or interesting as they make it seem, and most of what you pick up is just very minor stat differences. There are a few archetypal spell configurations but no way to really go ham and blend the kind of unique spells the trailers all suggested you could make.
Imagine a shallower DM with ONLY spells and a pointless inventory system that could net you maybe 0.5% crit chance or something.

That's bullshit.
Spell has a Sigil - basically an element. Theres 8 total.
Attunement (Destruction, Mastery, Control) - Basically DMG, debuff or crowd control.
Delivery method: Homing, AOE, etc...
That boils down to about a hundred actually absolutely unique spells. From basic elements to Necromancy and infecting enemies with parasites.
Every Sigil also has an Apocalyptica spell which happens somewhat randomly (unless you min-max it)
Then there are Synergies which are some unique spells made by some crafting and a combination of two Sigils - about 20 total. That's the fancy stuff from the trailers.
Shields have three variations ranging from tanky to sanic.
The resty is min-maxing.
If you're only spamming Fire Destruction, you're doing it wrong. It's a loot game like Diablo or Borderlands. You should constantly craft new spells and try new Sigils. The complicated speelcrafting is what this game is about.
You can bash this game for a lot of things, but not its spells. No game did magic this wellexcept Magicka
