Beyond that, unless they made bosses only vulnerable to certain weapons, they're pretty much always going to be strafe'n'spray.

mind you, designing a good boss takes as much effort as designing a whole proper area in a game, so the vast majority of boss fights feel half-assed and shit

So your asking for an fps boss that doesn't use any fps mechanics?

If so then from my most recent memory and even though splatoon isnt first person the concepts in its boss battles especially the finally boss could be applied to make a decent fps bosseses.

Essentially make i so that to hurt a boss evasion and skill must be used to do specific actions to open up a boss to being defeated.

A quick example would like lets say haveing a helicopter attack the player on foot. The player cant do much damgr with whatever weapons they have at hand but there is miltary grade anti air equipment scatter about that the player must activate to slowly bring the enemy down.

I dont think its possible in general to have a good boss fight in a FPS/shooting game. DEMONFACEWALL was a good boss though because it has platforming, adds, an acid floor surrounding the pillar yo need to get up on and pretty much throws extra shit at you simply because just a "boss" is shit. Even the cyberdemon is shit, if you dont stop moving you'll never get hit

It's not complicated, it's just not very engaging given the genre you are playing.

In a shooter the boss should be defeated by shooting at it, but it should also require you to think of a creative and engaging way to apply all the knowledge of the mechanics you acquired up to that point.

I can't think of a way to accomplish that myself.

If you're implying The Icon of Sin is interesting kill yourself. Its easily the worst level and i don't understand why wads make different versions of him half the time instead of not just making a custom boss for the end. His level is empty boring and his gimmick is shooting his forehead 3 times well the lift rises and he spawns shit wow.

No they get brownie points for trying and the only reason the city levels are largely shit aside from the few that don't do this are because they're filled with open emptiness everywhere since its supposed to look and feel like a city.

Really that all could've been fixed with more monsters though.

FPS mechanics is pretty much

bulletsponges are not very fun
thus it always works better with many enemies than with a single boss

you can do elaborate boss setups with multi stages and paterns, still feels less fun than chaos of fighting a horde of foes

and boss encounters team require coordination, its mmo way, very different from singleplayer games
