ME1 weapon options: elemental damage, giant heatsinks for huge mags and more shots before overheating, explosive single/double shots, DoT-applying bullets, and this applies to a fuckton of guns with random amounts of accessory slots and other varying stats
ME2/3 weapon options: hoard materials to upgrade a small amount of guns to be better than the previous upgrade, and when it comes time for ME3, upgrade a small amount of guns to either break through armor faster, do more damage, or be lighter (there's a weight limit now). Also: elemental and special bullets are now class restricted and take up a skill slot
