>TSMC announced 16nm architecture for 2016 GPU's
>GPU power will boost up 300 % for the same price as current GPU's
>consoles forced to stick to 28nm GPU's
>consoles holding back PC gaming once again

http://www.tsmc.com/english/dedicatedFoundry/technology/16nm.htm

The 2016 equivalent of the midrange GTX960 will be more powerful than a TITAN X
>>
Also, we will be able to enjoy 4K and/or 1080p VR with midrange single GPU's.
I can't wait for all the BUT I BOUGHT A TITAN/FURY butthurt
>>
>>320948354
Good we've had 28nm for far too long

660 was faster than a 580, that was the last major jump
>>
>Industry changing achievement
>a whole new world of possibilities

Okay, fuck you guys then.

Literally completely unfounded claims by the OP posted as fact.

>GPU power will boost up to 300% for the same price

Mentioned no where in posted article. Call me when we have Pascal/Arctic Island benchmarks, then we can talk.
>>
>>320949363
Ok. What's your number? I'll call you when they're in.

>>GPU power will boost up 300 % for the same price as current GPU's

Most likely a 50% performance increase in most games
>>
>>320949661
Don't tell me to call you for discussion to try to look cool then you fucking monkey faced bitch
>>
>>320949743
50% performance increase is still pretty significant.

Maybe he'd have actually called you.
You could just have ruined a wonderful potential friendship, faggot.

And games will still be tuned toward the lowest common denominator: consoles.

Stay cucked.

Which is still a pretty big deal

Industry change will come in some 5 years down the line because idiots will keep buying Nvidia 16nm equivalents of GT 210 with added VRAM because that's the only spec they are aware of.

Looks like someone added a 0 to much...
Call me pessimistic but thanks to Intel I now believe in smaller increases. Anyway, I won't mind to upgrade my HD7950, especially with more and more 21:9 (min. 3440x1440, Curved, FreeSync, HDR, ~100Hz+) Monitors coming.

We are indeed talking about double the amount of current 28nm power.

Here's a ramp down from some website:

>PC graphics finally moves away from ancient 28nm transistors in 2016
>HBM2 memory will give an insane 1TB/s of bandwidth and support 32GB of graphics memory
>Overall upshot could be a near doubling of gaming graphics performance…
– …or today’s performance at roughly half the cost
>Proper 4K gaming on a single GPU should be possible
>GPUs with enough performance for really high resolution virtual reality (VR) look likely, too
>Nvidia is sticking with TSMC for manufacturing, but question marks remain over AMD’s new graphics chip partner, GloFo

So... Should i save up more money and wait to buy my new computer next year?
>>

Stop pretending to be me.
>>
>>320948354
I've been hearing about this for months and still i've seen hardly any real information.

I'ts driving me nuts because it's time for me to build a new rig and if a new architecture is right around the corner i'd rather just wait a few months for it, but they are not giving me any information.
>>
I'm retarded, can someone explain to me what is happening?
I was planning on buying a GTX 980 Ti in january.
Should i wait?
>>
>>320951812
It'll most likely take more than just a few months
>>
>>320951624
The question should be whether or not there are any games you want to play on PC right now, when it comes to PC gaming, there's always something bigger and brighter on the horizon. The moment you buy your pascal/arctic island powered PC next year there'll be Volta/Whatever-AMD-does-next.

Anon please.
Even if we got hardware that is 100 times more powerful than this, we would get slightly better graphics without any optimization and the games would still run like shit.
Shitty cheap developer are holding back vidya.
>>
I'm a former masterrace but I switched to console.

I'd rather buy a console and know that I have the latest and greatest for at least a few years than buy a $400 GPU that will be considered ancient and have its price plummet in a month or less because Jewvidia shits out new chips like theres no tomorrow. They can't just make a good quality chip and then innovate for a while until they get a good price/performance ratio. They have to release a new chip every week with a $500 price tag that makes the one they released last week obsolete.

Sure, my PS4 isn't as powerful as a high end PC but at least I have the piece of mind of knowing they aren't going to release a PS5 next week and a PS6 the week after that.
>>
>>320951992
Yeah but there are major releases that stay the 'standard' for a while like the 970. I think that's how all this works but i don't know so maybe I'm just talking out my ass.

Anyway, I hope there isn't a major release soon after I build my pc, because I'm scared of that happening.
>>
>>320952265
Consoles are considered ancient every year. This gen has been considered ancient since the consoles released. So many games be it on launch or this year run at sub 30 frames. How can anyone stand that shit? A 750Ti will give the same framerate or slightly better
>>
Blizzard and Valve are pulling in billions a year from PC only.
Why aren't they investing in some massive cutting edge PC only stuff?

Just face it, if there were no consoles big budget games would be targeting $300 laptops instead.
>>
>>320952265

>latest and greatest
>console

Pick one.
>>
>>320952457
>Consoles are considered ancient every year.

Fine with me. Like I said, at least I know I have the latest console instead of them releasing a new $500 one every week.

HBM barely helps really increasing performance.
It's probably rather going to be >or today’s performance at roughly half the cost
and take all the extra money.

>>320951856
Only if it's a really good deal. It's no secret that the 16nm GPUs will come out 2016 and the old 26nm GPUs could take quite a hit to the resell value.

>>320952265
Bought my HD7950 ~3 years ago for under 300€ thanks to AMD Never Settle (sold the keys for like 50€+). And let's not even start with my 150€ 2500k - both are still kicking. You're obviously a console only peasant using their stupid "you have to upgrade with every new hw release!!!11" argument.
>>
I guess I dodged a bullet when I almost upgraded my gpu. My 7950 is still kicking, but it's time to upgrade. Gives me more time to save for other parts too I suppose.
>>
>>320952265
A new GPU doesn't render your current GPU obsolete, sure it drops in price but it doesn't really matter unless you're autistic and always have to buy the new shiny thing even if what you own is still perfectly fine. My HD7850 is almost 4 years old and I can still play new games at decent settings.
>>
>>320952297

There where no real big jumps in performance power the past years. The 2016 GPU's will change that with a new architecture.
Both, AMD and NVIDIA keep silent regards their 2016 lineup as both will - for the first time - use 2 completely different architectures from different research companies.
Competition will turn into war.
Yeah, so no information's yet from their side but it's confirmed that the next line up will use 16 nm.
>>
>>320953458

People should probably wait before purchasing one though.

Let other people see if they're colossal failures or not.

They can't patch shit hardware.
