That was just some Capcom intern who ran one of their European twitter accounts. Nobody actually important at Capcom ever blamed the fans.
The 3DS was failing hard its first few years on the market and to make matters worse, Keiji Inafune, the guy in charge MML3, bailed on the project when it was still in early development. Capcom looked at the miserable state of both MML3's development and the 3DS' early struggles for relevance and said "fuck it".

Also keep in mind that the previous two MML games sold like dogshit, so canceling MML3 for the struggling 3DS was likely seen as a way to not lose money.

This is the shit that people overlooked.
He bailed on his dream project and tried to cover his ass like "I wanted to go back and work on it but capcom wouldn't let me".

And yet 2 doors down from MML3's development team was the MonHun development team hard at work developing MH3U and MH4 for the 3DS and a floor down was the Resident Evil: Revelations team hard at work. Realize the massive flaw in your argument.
What more than likely happened was that Capcom saw Inafune literally talk about WANTING THE GAME TO FAIL on one of the biggest VG media outlets in Japan just because he quit and wanted to show Capcom can't make a successful Rockman game without him. And this was on top of him announcing the project without getting any clearance from his management.

Honestly, I don't feel bad at all for MML3's cancellation. Inafune, the guy who started the project, got up and left. Why the heck would you do that when you have such a big passion project you just started?

and since rune factory 4 or smt didn't come to eu, that 3DS eventually got tossed under the bed where it broke. I didn't even care.
3DS has no good games. At least, not in the EU. Otherwise it has 2.

But they called his bluff, suffered for it, and they're slowly getting better.
While Inafune is kind of a joke now.
