I hate the whole drawing magic and junctioning thing, using my magic risks me lowering my own stats, resulting in me only using what the enemy has on them.
I originally quit playing after about an hour in, but I gave the game a second chance after talking to people who like it, I got 10 hours in and all of a sudden after the second Laguna dream, everyone's magic was gone except for Squall's. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure out where all my magic went, until I finally decided to put the game down forever.

Pacing and bullshit.
Too many long stretches of doing fucking nothing in the game but walking around until switching back to the regular party.
And too much 'here is a thing so the plot can go forward' be it a key, a cut scene, or whatever else there is a lot of written into a corner and magiced out because we thought it would look cool going on.
I think it did a lot of amazing stuff and junctioning made magic useless but it was cool for strategy, but I never managed another play through. Get a long boring section and just can't muscle through it anymore.

Honestly, I kind of like how they did things like that. There's a surprising amount of depth to the setting in FF8, it's just not shoved in your face. It makes subsequent playthroughs a lot more interesting when you're still able to catch new details each time. Adel being responsible for distorting broadcast signals is a really nice example of this.
I think the major schism with this game is the mechanics. Gameplay is more stat-based than in any other FF in my opinion. I can understand people that love grinding and min-maxing and all that, which is what this game is designed around, but others like myself aren't really about that and more into exploring the world and doing sidequests and getting comfy. I didn't really get that from this game, and I'm not that interested going deep into the mechanics of junctioning and all that.
