i want to think that people didn't thought a machine based on cds and mostly capable of 3D (but much more kick ass for 2d games) and FMV cutscenes was a 32 bit or even bit based. there is also the fact that they sold the ps1 as a media player too (i very shit looking one, from what i can recall the only time i played a music cd in a ps1) and continue the trend with the ps2 as a dvd player.
