From a gameplay and design perspective you're wrong because in that regard it is the best game in the entire series. It even introduced stuff that is now copied by a bunch of other fighting games, like the world coliseum.
The biggest issue with 5 was directly tied to time constraints and budget, hence why it lacked characters and whatnot.
You'd have to be pretty damn stupid to think that 4 played better and was better balanced than 5.
I'd like a tag system of sorts in actual versus play. It was implemented in SC4's single player mode, but not in multiplayer.
A shame, really.

The few tournies that did have SCV had about 40 - 70 entrants and they just didn't happen there was a sour taste left in everyones mouth still because of the shit that was pulled during SCIVs run. No one wanted to go back to it because of that.
