I wanna go to space.
Homeworld Remastered sucks, because they took out formations and ballistics simulation. The next Homeworld game looks like a poor man's Forged Alliance.
So. I noticed there are a million space 4x games out. Which one doesn't suck? I'm looking for
>singleplayer, but doesn't need a "epic" campaign
>so mainly skirmish
>if it has campaign, give me some funky races
>actually something to explore
>actually some diplomacy
>other races don't declare war for no reason
>AI is not retarded
>can make crazy starships
>combat isn't rng based

It's pretty old but I do recommend Imperium Galactica 2.
You can do some neat diplomatic and spy shenanigans, you get to go planetside, there's campaigns as well as skirmishes and the three main races (plus the other, minor ones) are all unique.
Plus the music is fucking great.
If you are willing to forgive it its age, you will have a great time with it.

it's not on steam and not on gog?
I'm not a graphics whore, but I'd really like something that works out of the box

If you are looking for more of an RTS feel(since you mentioned homeworld) the only real contender is Sins of a Solar Empire.

It's probably on amazon or something. It came out in 2001 if I recall correctly, but there's still copies around.
If I were you I'd also google around to make sure it runs on a modern system in compatibility mode, maybe pirate it first to try out etc.

>Homeworld Remastered
Homeworld is not a 4x
>>320857345
thx, but I've already played Sins. My favorite mods are Sacrifice of Angels 2 and Armada III - both Star Trek mods.

Also found http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/imperium_galactica_ii so there seems to be at the very least some interest for it to be on gog.
>>320857559
yeah I know I'm looking into 4x because Homeworld Remastered sucked and there is nothing else like it.
>>320857521
>get Imperium Galactica II on amazon
1 new for 199,95
5 used starting at 26,95
1 collector's item for 99,90
too much
>>320856206
you're looking for exactly one game - sins of a solar empire.

>>1 new for 199,95

Whoa.
Just looked it up, amazon.co.uk lists it for £19 new and £5 used. Maybe try to import that? Not sure how that works.
But in your situation the best route is probably to simply pirate it or find it used cheap somewhere. I'm generally against piracy, but if you are curious it might be best to first make sure it's something you'd like in the first place.
So since no one is suggesting a recent 4x space game and I've already played Sins Rebellion and its Star Trek mods... I'm going to ask for the best STAR WARS mod:
Star Wars: Interregnum
Star Wars - Alliance
Sins of a Galactic Empire
...which one and why?
Sword of the Stars I
Sword of the Stars II
Endless Space
Galactic Civilizations III
Distant Worlds
Fallen Enchantress
Space Empires
Star Drive
Star Ruler
>too many
>which one doesn't suck
Master of Orion
Master of Orion 2
Also, there's apparently some kind of new Master of Orion game being made right now, get that.

>GalCiv 3
>not GalCiv 2
Which space empires?
SE V?
Which mods?
Is X Rebirth good yet?
Homeworld Remasters are getting formations back in a patch next month.

I once played a space game called Sins of our Empire or something
It was really cool but way too autistic for me
I liked the capital ships though
Reminded me of Supreme Commander, with the big badass expensive units. That game was also too autistic for me however.

It's Sins of a Solar Empire.
