I love RPGs that are island based, and each island has a semi-selfcontained plot that still connects to a larger plot. Especially when there's a moderate amount of backtracking without being excessive to make it feel like old ones are still relevant. Comfiest.

I think you can softmod the wii side of your wii u, but I haven't tried it since my wii still works.
On the other hand wiis are cheap really easy to softmod, I'd recommend it.
