Let's be completely serious and as objective as possible.
Is One-Winged Angel truly a good final boss theme song or not? Is it even the best final boss theme song of Final Fantasy?
Eh, I guess so
I think it takes to long to start up, and I'm not really a fan of orchestral scores.
Felt like they tried remaking dancing mad
It's definitely one of the top ten most recognizable songs in vidya,
It's not my favorite, but it's pretty good.
It's pretty good.
But no, the best is The Extreme. It does everything OWA tried to do but better.

It's a good theme song but I like the finaql boss themes from VI and VIII better.
Especially VI, that song's composition is just perfect and pulls together so many different moods and elements from the game that it's fucking amazing.
I fuckin' love OWA. I think it's fantastic!

It's pretty bad, actually. It's easy to gauge just how cringy someone is by their liking of the piece. Guys with trenchcoats and fedoras marching their fat asses down the street humming the tune, though in their heads they replace the "SEH-FEE-ROS" exultation with their own name.
Dancing Mad was much better. Experimental sound, unconventional time signature. It was was more a blistering force of nature than an actual song. One Winged Angel is just some narcissist's wet dream.

How can you be objective in opinions in music?
>>320850445
The Birth of a God is Sephiroth's best theme. But OWA is top tier too.
Dancing Mad is my favourite final boss theme in FF though.
>>320851220
huh, wonder why two different characters theme songs make you think of them and their defining traits?
yeah probably
those chosen by the planet is a better theme for him though, and I hardly hear it used
shame
It's a standout track from Final Fantasy's score over almost 30 years. It's not a great track, mind you, but it's memorable.
Far Cry 3 had more notable tracks than Final Fantasy I-XIV. Nobuo is a hack. I'd call him the Hans Zimmermeme of vidya, but that's Koji.
Why do popular, long running game series never fucking change up their music?Because the songs are nostalgic, and people only buy these awful long running Doctor Who video games because of the nostalgia triggers

I prefer Otherworld but OWA is pretty crazy for its time with its latin shit everywhere in a vidya
Dancing Mad is the GOAT boss theme.
>>320851220
Liking dancing mad when it's plagiarized shit

>Is One-Winged Angel truly a good final boss theme song or not?
Sure, why wouldn't it be?
>>320850785
It's definitely better at putting me to sleep.
J-E-N-O-V-A is an infinitely better song than OWA.
Of course it's great were talking about it 20 years later

You call other people fedora tippers and then post this?

It was "inspired" by a unknown 70´s german prog band
>>320851460
XIV seriously has q god-tier memorable OST.
Say what you will but Ifrit aside, every primal theme is absolutely the raddest shit
The Extreme is the best FF song and I fucking hate FFVIII

From a compositional standpoint, it works and all of it gels and what-not. The song is simple in its format and motifs, using chromatic runs and pretty noticeable scale passages throughout the song, but it is very repetitive with only having an A and B section. Thinking back to it now, it's an alright theme, 5.5/10, nothing special but works perfectly fine theoretically and practically. With nostalgia goggles, it's easily an 8/10.

>all these fedoras that are fresh out of music appreciation in jr college
It does its job well, as it is only incidental music. You guys are basing him on the same level as a classical composer when they are two different genres.

yes
It's ok
The Extreme is a decent song. It's got several recognizable riffs from other Final Fantasy battle and boss themes layered together. It fits the time compression concept. It's basically the Final Fantasy equivalent of a Weird Al polka.
Not the GOAT, but I definitely enjoy Maker's Ruin from FFXIV. It's very traditional and boss-like, with its bombastic orchestra crescendos and Latin chanting. Hardly original, but well put together, like a nice scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

None of my top three final boss themes are even from Final Fantasy though.

I liked the Undying theme in XII. It starts out kind of serene and slowly builds up to his decision to fuse with Venat, and then the terrible transformation begins and there's just noise and anger, seguing into The Final Battle with chorus and everything goddamn, so good
Seymour's battle theme from FFX is my favorite. Though it's not technically a final boss theme.

Honestly it's alright but I prefer Seymour's Ambition. The HD version of that with the drums are great too.

One Winged Angel is pretty nice because it let this happen
