It may be worth keeping crown authority low unless you're planning on changing succession laws to something better. I can't remember exactly which one sets it so that vassals can't fight but as soon as you press that button you better make damn certain that everyone is happy because now you're the only target that they can wage war with.

Elective is the easiest one if you aren't a retard.

It depends what stage of the game you're in, how big your kingdom is and if you're roleplaying or not.
Stewardship is godly for any kingdoms up to around 15-20 demesne size as you can power develop all of your holdings which turns you into a powerhouse after 100 years passes.
Schemers are great if you make it your dynasty's goal to either: protect your king, the kingdom, your family or putting your family into positions of power.
Warriors are only good if you're playing as the nords, but it can be fun to seduce a bunch of lords wives. Waiting for them to rival you and then dueling them. You could also cheat to give yourself the perfect wife and play as a beta cuck trying to man up.

You cannot have a king be your vassal unless you are an emperor. You will need to get him to be the heir to both Aquitaine AND west francia
The best way to do this (for me at least) is to have this son marry a current kings daughter so their babies will have claims on the kingdom which you should be able to press in war.
this will however take a long time and kind of plays into the whole planning phase.

Upgrade your castles and markets. You should pretty much only have 1 or 2 counties and a bunch of castles in them, especially late game. You get a massive bonus to troops in your capitol city and a minor bonus for counties in your capitol duchy (the duchy your capitol is in). There is no reason to have counties outside of it.
Also build up your vassal city markets. They make the most money for taxes.

There is another trick for making money... beg the pope. If you're catholic, stay a good one. At 80+ relation, it's very likely he will give you money if you ask for it. If you have an insane relationship with him, you can even ask him twice or three times. -50 relations for each time he gives you some, but that isn't really a big deal. They will rarely excommunicate you for this unless you start doing terrible shit that affects his relation (like traits that apply to everyone, such as kinslayer). Most of the time you'll have really good traits anyway if you're playing the game right and managing your heirs properly. Bonus: popes die all the fucking time and reset it, so you can always ask again.
Joining crusades is the best way to get a nice bonus to the pope, and a long term bonus would be sending your king and heirs to step one foot in the target for the crusader trait, and then leaving to worry about more important things... if that's what you want to do.
