Deaf dude reporting, enjoying pretty much any game where sounds arent mandatory to feel.

Speaking of which, I wish someone would explain to me how do sounds feel since I was born like this. I realize it's just vibrations, but people explain to me that I can feel them inside my head. Someone can explain?

my sister took sign language course at her college and the teacher was a deaf
my sister told me how what you just said is pretty much true, in that the deaf community is very prideful and shuns people who get cochlear implants or any hearing aids of any sort

at the end of the course the assignment was to write a paper on whether or not you have your deaf child get the implants.
my sister took the position of opting to get it for her child so that they could hear all the beautiful sounds of the world and music and things like that
she got an F and the teacher was super pissed said she didnt learn anything in the course
it soured my sister on pursing sign language further which is a shame because she seemed to enjoy it

Anon dats gwoss
>>
>>320815385
People who are talking about sounds inside the head are either talking about hearing via bone conduction or just some sound image they're hearing based on memory. Obviously if you've never heard before then there's no way to have a memory like that, and bone conduction only works if you have some outer ear problem.

In other words, your friends don't know shit.

>>320815460
Cost is one thing. Hearing aids can be expensive, but undergoing the surgery necessary for an implant is significantly more expensive.

Anyone have that image where a guy talks about how happy he is that he paid for some mexicunt doctor to make his son deaf?
>>
>>320814338

The biggest question is why does he have a phone when you can't use it for its main purpose making calls
>>
>>320815460
Peculiar bit of culture within the community more generally. Obviously there's tons of reasons why one wouldn't or couldn't get a cochlear, but pride is an element of it.
Hearing folks tend to view hearing as an absolute plus, while Deaf do not. Some Deaf believe lack of hearing is preferable.

To be frank, any game that doesn't heavily rely on sound should be fine without it. Music helps improve Super Mario Bros for example, but it doesn't rely on it and still stands fine on it's own.

I was well aware of that and making a joke I see it went right over your head

Remember that classic bit of "deaf culture" propaganda where some deaf retard talks about how he's getting his son deafened so he can be more like him, and at the end he's all "so this is what it's like when you tell a deaf person to get implants for their kids".

I fucking hate deaf people, and their retarded coping mechanisms.

Basically any games with subtitles for relevant dialog.

That aside, the deaf community is really just made up of deaf cultists. They even tried to talk my parents into giving me away to a "legit deaf family". So if you see someone being all "deaf power", that's either a brainwashed cultist or a elderly person trying to hang on to a forgotten pastime before AGB fucked it up.

I don't see a reason to be proud of a disability. To not care beyond practicality, that's good. To me, being "proud" of it is letting it run your life just as badly as being depressed by it. I have a chronic medical condition requiring constant blood tests and the like and you definitely don't see me being proud of it, because it's not an achievement.

These people would rather have some delusional bubble of a community instead of just integrating into the real world. The second they try and stop people from getting surgery is when I think they'd all be better off dead. Especially when these implants work best the younger you are.

It's like having your kid born with a cleft lip or fucking arms fused to his body, and not going "oh yeah, just fix that obvious defect".

Both my parents are deaf. Two things have come from that: I need to have subtitles or closed captions on everything I can, despite not needing them, and I'm terrified of silence.
>>
With the deaf I think it largely has to do with the nature of the disability. You're missing a sense you really can't even imagine if you've never experienced it (while the blind can't conceptualize colors, they understand 3D space and such, which is generally the most important aspect of vision), and its a sense that is extremely vital to everyday conversation and other forms of relaying information. I imagine its these two things that cause a certain feeling of alienation with the deaf and the oddly insular communities that tend to rise from it.

Sound is like a thought coming from the outside in which you cannot ignore. If someone is close to you it is loud and vice versa. You can tell where sounds come from by their direction and how loud they are.

There are many different kinds of sounds, as there are many different words and colours. As one anon mentioned, there are soft sounds, harsh sounds, pleasing sounds and painful sounds; and many more besides.

You do not feel the "vibration." Do your eyes feel light rays hitting them? No.

As a deaf person there are many options available to you if you wish to hear. It is not like you will never be able to. It is very hard to describe sound to someone who has not heard, it's like imaging a dimension beyond the 4 we inhabit. I can only imagine describing colour to a blind man is harder.

I hope one day you are able to hear because there is much beauty in it

I'm deaf myself (though while I can hear stuff with really powerful hearing aids, I'm completely screwed if there's background noise or more than 1 guy holding a conversation).

Vast majority of deaf people gets implants and such and are happy to have them (especially younger ones). I've never even seen a person that rejects them personally. Don't

You know how you smell things?
You know how you can feel the sensations of things, rough / soft, or cold / warm etc.?
Try explaining that to someone that can't.

It's simply impossible. It's another layer of sensory. It's like how we can't possibly imagine how animals with sonar interpret it, so we think of it like a flashy black and white picture, when in reality it's something entirely alien to us.
>>
>>320821513
You're missing out on immersion. Game companies blew a sizable portion of their budget on sound production only for you to mute all their hard work. No wonder /v/ hates vidya and often complain about games aren't immersive enough.

You can say "I'm not ashamed of being deaf", that's fucking fine, and honestly it's healthy to not hate yourself, especially over things outside of your control.
But being proud of it is stupid. It's like the fatties that say they're proud of being fat. All the power to them if they're not ashamed, great, but don't try to convert people into your cult or tell people not to try and better themselves.

I can confirm this, I learned sign language with some other languages and it was pretty much the same sort of thing.

I can't really blame disabled people for trying to rationalize their happiness though, it's pretty natural.

If you want to convince deaf people that cochlear implants are a good idea you can do it from a safety perspective rather than an emotional one.

You can type with your eyes closed and have someone or something read words on the screen. Of course, the forum format would be almost impossible to navigate so anon is of course lying, but it's possible to do other rudimentary things.
