I've tested it out but I actually really dislike Flux. I ended up uninstalling it and simply using the "warm" color theme on my monitor's control panel.

Basically, the problem with Flux is that I don't feel like having a dim, washed out screen when I'm browsing at night. I'd much rather have a constant slight dimness filter that isn't time sensitive.
>>
I just use the dark themes for websites.
>>
Only if I know I'm going to bed in the next hour or so and not playing a game.
>>
>>320798142
>eyes healthy

there is no such thing as "eye strain" from looking at screens. your eyes being irritated does not mean they're being damaged.
>>
I didn't even know this was a thing

This could either be really neat or really shit
>>
>>320802280
it's a pink filter for your screen
it is based on evidence mostly a single kinda sketchy paper from some random journal
that evidence says that people who looked at blue lights were less tired than those who looked at red lights
f.lux itself hasn't ever been tested thoroughly
>>
>>320799680

>>320802510

I'm actually playing around with it right now and it's made my screen piss yellow and it's made Yotsuba B hurt to look at
>>

Saw someone complaining about how his eyeballs now get hurt when he turns it off.
If anything this makes your eyes weaker, fuck that.
>>
All I find comfy is the Alt + Pg Dn/Up to darken the screen at night, it's really handy.

Also, speaking of essentials:

>>
>>320798142
Uninstalled almost immediately.

I guess if you just read a lot of text at night it's useful, otherwise it just makes everything look like piss.

Been using it for years. You obviously notice the shift right at sunset, but after a minute you get used to it.
>>
>>320802703

The first few nights I used it it was terrible. I kept at it and now my monitor is blinding if I try to turn it off at night. It really helps out a lot.
>>
>hey man, nice picture you got, I can tell you spent time calibrating your monitor and GPU settings for the best picture possible on your setup
>but you know what that picture could *really* use? (^:',

Yeah, no. I relegated this shit to the realm of normies on macbooks long ago. I just use dark themes on everything I can, to the point where my screen is almost always at least 90% black.

Could you make a more retarded argument? Are you suggesting that nothing ever is worth doing if you have to get used to it first? Because if that's the case you wouldn't be staring a backlit LCD screen to begin with since you'd need to GET USED TO IT FIRST.

And you weren't even expecting this to happen. This is like walking into a cellar and complaining that you need to lower your head because the ceiling is too low.
>B-BUT THIS DOESN'T MAKE IT OK BECAUSE OF MUH RETARDED ANALOGY ;___;
>>

F.lux definitely works.

I've had times where i woke up at 4am in the morning, shook the mouse of my computer to wake it up only to be greeted by a fucking portable sun in the middle of my room. Turning on flux and the screen slowly dims down, and i can actually look at the screen normally.
>>
>>320806827
>Are you suggesting that nothing ever is worth doing if you have to get used to it first?
No, I'm saying that an unpleasant action doesn't suddenly get good when you become used to it.

>This is like walking into a cellar and complaining that you need to lower your head because the ceiling is too low.
That's not OK either.
I actually do live in a house where the entrances into the staircases are too low, so I might clock myself if I don't duck a little.

It should have been raised when it was built.
I'm not even that tall.

But I've gotten used to it.
Doesn't make it a good thing. I'm simply used to it.

The sort of people who aren't filled with cynicism at the sight of this.

Why would I want to eat McDonalds when there's an In-N-Out down the road?

Why would I eat at ANY other burger joint when there's an In-N-Out down the road?
>>
If I wanted to pretend I was color blind I would've bought some shitty bargain bin monitors. I prefer my screen to not look awful.
>>
>>320806174
Those are privacy screens, they make it harder to look at the monitor at an angle so someone can't look over your shoulder

>>320808965
Nobody, they force pro gamers to wear them as part of a paid contract, since so many of them do it it's like an agreed upon handicap or something, like not being allowed to use a golf cart
>>
>>320809209
this is embarrassing
I'm embarrassed for whoever thought this was a good idea

>never touching the food

That's the worst thing. You can tell they just want to get the fuck out as fast as possible.

>haha right guys? great food here, r-right? h-ha ha...
>>
yep

Tomorrow is shit and flux gets the same results without having to replace good ol 4chan blue with black shit
>>
>>320798142
I think I'm just going to learn how to write a program that will automatically flip 4chan between Yotsuba B and Tomorrow based on the time of day. Seems like a better solution than tinting the entire screen.
>>
flux has a minor issue of overriding your graphic cards settings upon use and you are unable to adjust anything afterwards.
It is a neat program but only useful on non-game rigs

Is In-N-Out the most overrated restaurant in America? I think so
>>
i use that shit. makes a huge difference, and you get used to the lower light settings pretty quickly. its a huge difference when its back to normal you can tell by switching the settings manually. cant believe thats how normal people use it constantly.

Do people's eyes really get strained? How does that even feel? I thought that was just my grandparents trying to meme me.

>Years after they said they would implement it you STILL can't set the adjustment times manually and have to use the longitude / latitude bullshit

I work mornings. I get up at 2AM and go to bed at 6PM. I have no use for a program that aims to keep me awake when I'm about to go to bed and aims to make me sleepy when I'm getting up.

Like you've got a vice on your eyes. Or as a headache or pain behind your eyes.

What
>>
are there any exercises you can do to strengthen your eyes? isn't that what pro gamers do to stay on top?

I use it on the orangest setting 100% of the time.

Use your computer for 8 hours straight. Complete at least 5 sets of that a week for maximum results.

Pleb faggots
>>
>>320798142
What is the point of this? It says it's suppose to prevent your monitor from keeping you up. But I thought that was the off button.

If you want to reduce eye strain, then position light around the monitor, so your entire vision is filled with light. Your eyes strain, because you are focusing on the monitor for all of your light. You need full ambient light so your eyes can relax.

isnt the entire idea of f.lux to filter out the blue light, which keeps you from feeling tired when you stare at it? f.lux helps keep your body clock from getting out of whack.

I run all my stuff at 9300k, so there's no point.
If I want to look at something with a lower white point, I'll just lower it myself.
