I just watched a stream, looks like another generic MMO with hundreds of boxes on the screen.
Everything aside, I played Blade and Soul and it has, by far, the best combat in any MMO I've ever seen. It's fucking awesome. Even fighting regular mobs is fun as fuck, boss fights are down-right fighting game material.
The rampant fanservice is just a bonus. Definitely a game I'm looking out for when it comes out in January.

bns also has resource management. all the classes revolve around building and spending resource like every other mmo. it's nice that combat is more dependent on player skill but it's far from a fighting game.

It feels meaty. Martial artist is mostly about parrying strikes to get instant counterattacks, and dodging big cooldowns with dashes and stuff.
There's all sorts of stuff, different ways you can dynamic entry into combat, big AoE knockbacks, you sweep legs and mount people, then headbutt them, pound them into the ground, even fucking armbar them. All sorts of things.
I should also mention barely scratched the game. Going by the skillbook, I barely got to have one fourth of all skills and already felt like I had all the skills in my class, compared to other mmos.
The game just worked really well. Nothing else really stood out too much, other than the visuals, but gameplay wise, it was the most fun and interactive combat I've seen in an MMO, by a long shot.

They're context sensitive. If an opponent is down, you can jump and land with your knees on him, stomp him, straddle him, and others.If you're straddling them, you can do other things, but yes, they're all single button presses. It's heavily combo based. By parrying a hit, you can do x y or z moves, same thing if you dodge a move, or get behind an opponent.

Played the first closed beta.
It was actually pretty good. Not anywhere near actually a fighting game, but definitely the closest mmos have gotten. PvP was cool and felt like there was a lot of depth to it, there's even an oki game, although I'm sure shit gets frustrating sometimes because its still mmo pvp at heart.
The piggest problem was that the PvE was braindead easy, at least for the 35 or so level I played. Normal dungeons are soloable with no difficulty and the group dungeons are just sprinting through everything spamming AoEs until you get to the boss, which goes down in seconds and then you get outbid on the weapon you need to upgrade your sword for the fifth time.
Mechanically great combat though

Somewhat, kung fu master has the tightest counter timing with a 0.5 second window and the class gets crippled whenever they run server stress testing. Vindictus ditched anyone having less than 0.5 seconds of i-frames long ago, but it still benefits from being designed from the beginning around a more action game focus like DMC/Monster Hunter versus Blade and Souls original tab targetting MMORPG design. The big difference is that BnS has a heavy focus on PvP, and it shows, instead of it being an afterthought addition like PvP in Vindictus.

BnS is actually pretty good though. It is hotkeys, but they're context based so "F" means different things depending on what's going on. If you just stunned them its a knockup, if you just countered something it can be a special attack, if they're on the ground its a pin, and that gives you a whole new set of options.
At least from what I remember of the beta. Its not a fighting game, but it actually manages to kind of feel like it when you're playing.
My only complaint is that it is tab targeted, which in reality is probably a good thing, because non-asian countries can't into good internet and the more important positioning and aim are the more you get fucked for not having 5 ping like everyone in korea.Dragon Nest still has the best MMO gameplay, a shame everything else about the game sucks

It's okay, it has more character customisation than most MMOs, and it's cool that most of the important/important-ish characters are fully voiced. But the UI is kinda dumb, and the combat system could be much improved. Plus, players of the opposing faction can attack you pretty much no matter where you are, and higher lvl players pretty much prey on lower lvl players of the other faction, and then proceed to kill you multiple times, forcing you to avoid cities/towns. When I got owned by the same opposing faction member 4 times within ten mins in a town I gave up for the weekend. If I get invited to another weekend beta test, I may try it, but it's def not something I can see myself playing very often. Now, WildStar, on the other hand (which is also made by NCsoft) is so so so much better. If you enjoy MMORPGS and a cute art style and cool music, I would totally recommend you give WildStar a chance if you haven't already.

I think Wild Star is the worst MMO I've ever played. Playing it sucked the fun right out of my body.
And the worst thing is that it's basically The Secret World but with way less customization, a more generic fantasy setting, and easier enemies. Even though TSW was awful and boring and used the same terrible builder/finisher combat system, being able to make gimmicky skill builds from every weapon was a little interesting. Especially back when the game was actually difficult and you needed a lot of planning just to survive normal quests.
