The story was the worst part
1=2=3>5>4. Only reason 4 ranks lower than 5 is because how little gameplay there is. Sure 5 could have been better in a ton of things but at least you werent watching hour long cutscenes then listening to a 10 min codec call about why you should care about the faceless boss you just killed.
This is pretty much the definitive ranking. 1,2, and 3 is subjective to the person as to how theyd rank it the best but objectively theyre all even. 1 had the story and bosses, 2 had the amazing tweest, and 3 had the best gameplay by far, not to mention online.

MGS2 isn't even that similar to MGS. Stop mistaking what's relevant to the characters for what's relevant to the player. The actual flow of events that the player participates in in MGS2 is very different from MGS1.
MG2 is more similar to MGS1 than MGS2 is.
