Armored Armadillo.Megaman is my favourite game series and I never played anything outside of the classic series and the GB port of X. I really don't have any interest in playing X for some reason. It generally appears to me to be less quality than the classic series.

I suppose so but from what I get the post-3 Xs are trash anyway, and X just seems to have a lot of tacked on shit and clustered up level design. I mean, I am sure it is a fantastic game, but I simply have no interest in playing it.

X4 is great and X8 is fun. The Zero series is nothing like Sonic the Hedgehog. If anything, it gives the series a good conclusion. Zero also has the best story line out of all the Megaman series.
ZX and ZXAdvent are the closest to Megaman style Metroidvanias. As for the other spin-offs, Battle Network 1,2,3 and 6 are great. StarForce improves after each game, and both Legends are fun.

Stop. Just because the game takes a more serious tone doesn't automatically mean it's full of angst. At no point does Zero cry in the series or go into full "angst". If anything, he's completely confident. Hell, no one in the rebellion is sappy. The resistance's general mood all goes up once they realize they have Zero on their side.
There's only one character that fits the "angst" bill and he had a legitimate reason to act the way he did and do what he did.
