You can just tell when sprite animations have tons of work put into them.

I honestly don't know where to begin.

Like any form of art, Consistency, contrast, and detail.

If animated, flow and form.

A solid sprite needs to have a specific palette applied to it, you can't just throw basic MS paint colors at it and hope it sticks, it'll look awful. It takes a lot of color and light theory, like any piece of art.

Some pixel artists understand that, others don't. Primarily those who "Recolor"

for one, there's the visuals and amount of details/composition of the sprite

but what makes sprites really shine is proper and believable animation

They took the existing sprites, scaled them up, force-shifted perspective by removing a leg and an arm from each sprite to try and make them flat 2d, and then recolored them in pastels.

They fucked up games that didn't need any visual touch-ups at all because they're fools.

Pixel art is so fucking incredible when done right. I love it. I wish more companies or indie devs actually used pixel art WITH EFFORT instead of the lazy, generic indie pixel shit.

The UI does less with more space. This is objectively bad design. Also, when porting from an original, you owe your design to the original. Sleek, translucent panes clash with the gritty and earthy textures of the source material. This is akin to giving a Lord of the Rings video game the UI from Phantasy Star Online.

There is little objectivity in UI design aside from screen space efficiency and this UI fails that.
