I feel like they are juggling way too much at once.
Bringing back Kurain without resolving Apollo's story means that Phoenix (and Maya) would end up overshadowing Apollo (and Athena) again. How is Athena's story going to be relevant in the grand scheme of things? Unlike Maya and Trucy, she is an actual main character. If they really threw her out, it'll be a waste.
It going to be hard to tie up all the character's plot points together like they did in the first trilogy. How are the Kurains going to tie with the Gramaryes and the Phantom? It will be anti-climatic if they aren't connected.

Phoenix BARELY has/had a story and he's the main guy. The games are about other people's stories and the protag solves these problems or whatever. Apollo's "story" barely even registers and Athena had her backstory and now it's her time to just focus on being a lawyer. Apollo could use a little more to him, but's it not super important. Characterization is what matters, not backstories.
And Apollo and Trucy don't need to know they are siblings. I don't see the damn point. Them meeting as strangers and quickly becoming just like siblings was the point in my eyes.

Because this game is an end of a trilogy. If the plot lines don't all cohesively come together, it will feel like just another AA installment (like AA2 and AA5) rather than a final game (like AA3).

Nothing from Apollo Justice was adressed in Dual Destinies. They just added more rushed backstory that didn't make any sense in the end or made any changes to Apollo's shitty character. The original trilogy at least had an overarching plot thread throughout.
Apollo Justice should likely be considered a spinoff, like the Investigations. This new game is really the second game in the second trilogy. I hope Apollo dies in this game.
