too much in today's games?
Before people autistically focus on the games used as examples instead of the actual point in the OP image: Dark Souls was a breath of fresh air for modern game design, difficulty is irrelevant.
fighting games dont hold your hand (except for smash 4 but thats not a true fighting game)
>Dark souls
>not hand holding
really? So thats why any time you approach an object you get a big message on the screen telling you what to do?
>PRESS X TO CLIMB LADDER
>PRESS X TO SWITCH LEVER
>PRESS X TO LIGHT BONFIRE
game devs, go eat shit and let people figure out things on their own

post all the epic meme faces you want bruh. you cant deconstruct my point.
>>320705595
Do not spoil or bully the child
>>320705595
No the bigger problem is games playing themselves for you and moving the character for you. Like combat in Arkham Knight .
Handholding is just telling you what you should do. I'd rather that than the game trying to make sure you don't fail while trying to hide that its doing that.
>>320705595
Can't I have something in-between these two?
>>320706095
>>320706595
Deconstructing a turd is not worth it.
>>320706648
Sadly it is one or the other.
Kids are little shits, I should know. I've practically helped raise two.

The game tells you exactly what buttons to press, and when to press them, because playtesters are retards, and cannot think to interact with an object unless it's glowing and has a minimap arrow pointing at it
>>320706595
What is there to deconstruct?
Those are actually helpful button prompts.
First, if you forgot which button interacts with the environment, it shows you.
Second, it lets you know when you're within activation range of an interactive world object.
Useful for casuals, useful for pros.
Hand-holding would be
>The chest ahead is a Mimic, watch this tutorial video to learn how to win!
That is helpful for no one but shitters.
>>320705595
i just hope xcom2 won't have any hand holding
>>320706980
What maters is whether or not you made them grow into bigger shits or slightly better shits.
>>320706980
In that case spoil. Pls no bully.
>>320707081
No bully, but discipline.
A lot of parents does not know the idea. It makes me wanna smack them everytime i see their children bawling and mopping the floor with their cloths, and the parents just staring or worse bargaining with the child.
>>320707023
You're thick aren't yah?
>>320707081
>spoil
>don't give kid what he wants at one point for a good reason
>literally screams at the top of it's lungs because you won't give it what it wantsMy nephew has bladder exstrophy. I've helped take care of him most of his life, he's about 5 years old now. Bladder exstrophy makes it to where he'll have to have a tube inside of his stomach to pee for the rest of his life, and has to do it every 3 or 4 hours every single day, along with meds.
He often gets spoiled because of this, but other than that he's like any of the other kids. Since he's so spoiled though, he'll do mostly whatever he wants and SCREAM at the top of his lungs if you tell him otherwise.
What >>320707187 pretty much said. My niece is rather well behaved and has been well behaved while growing up, we discipline her well.
>>320707187
Sometimes those parents were disciplined harshly as children, but their parents never reinforced why.
In that, the discipline was actually just arbitrary cruelty.
The worst parents discipline without informing the child of their mistakes, because that makes broken adults later.
>>320707187
Absolutely, I'd just choose spoil if that and bullying was the only options. If you bully the loli they might be ruined for life. At least spoiled fucknuggets have chance to learn their lesson.
>>320707358
>disciplined harshly as children
That's abuse, and that's different.
>>320707358
I was punished once as a kid by a stranger (was at a youth camp) and the person didn't tell me what I did wrong. It still bug me to this day that I did something wrong or at least the person thought so and was punished for it but I still don't know what the fuck it was. I literally have no clue.
A punishment is worthless if you don't know what you did wrong. To think this one thing bug the hell out of me still but it is minor and didn't effect me that much overall. Just something I think about once every so often but there are kids or now adults who are/were punished for what may as well been for no reason and literally been nothing but confused for their whole life. I hated that feeling enough for it to become a permanent memory for me, I can only feel pity for those who only know that feeling and no other.
>>320707428
Sometimes it is meant as honest discipline, but the parent either fails to explain properly or the child doesn't understand the concept at their level of experience.
The worst parents are the sarcastic ones who make promises into lies and punish when the child feels betrayed and acts out.
I hope you're not one of those, anon.
>>320707915
It's not a fun feeling, no.
Well at least my parents didn't believe in revoking entertainment privileges.
I'm happy that I've always had video games to escape the less savory elements of my childhood.

>le ebin dark souls is hardcore maymay
I want reddit to leave.
DS was an entertaining game of completely average difficulty. The misconception that it's "hardcore" comes from some terrible design decisions and half-assed dev efforts (like engrish all over the damn place cause they couldn't even be bothered to find some community college student to translate and just ran everything through Google).
>>320708376
There haven't been very many difficult games on the market in recent history that weren't anime, turn-taking strategy, or some nostalgia-fueled niche thing.
It makes sense they latch onto streamlined mediumcore grimdark dungeon crawlers like DaS.
>>320707053
Outside of the optional tutorial, i doubt it.
>>320709005
Normal difficulty might have that hidden increased chance to hit system again. Consecutive missed shots on a single target have better odds than listed or something like that.
Gamer (and father of a 3 month old son) here.
Unfortunately I don't have either the time nor the stamina to fight my way trough hard games anymore.
so casual action games are great for me.
I can't sit in front of a TV and play straight for 4-5h like when I was 14.
I want to be entertained by games - that's all there is to it.
I am not searching for some kind of enlightment by finishing something difficult on my PS4..
