>>320705159
How about the game Bioshock ripped off?
>>320705159
Dead Space 1
>>320705159
sleeping dogs is pretty go from the 5 hours I've played so far.
>>320705524
How did it rip ss off?
Even the name would imply that the two games have similarties
>>320705597
This.
I have Bioshock 1 and 2 on my shelf
I recently beat System Shock 2 (went with Energy Weapons and Psi build)
should I play it?
Silent Hill, REmake, Dark Souls, Super Metroid, etc. etc.

Shadow of the Colossus

You guys were quick. Silent Hill 1-3 are the very best at atmosphere. Anything else is beneath these games.
>caption street name
>sutherland
I can but Bioshock does have good atmosphere.
>>320705159
The Longest Journey games. The puzzle mechanics and action has aged, but there's something about the world that I lose myself in.
>>320705159
Bioshock Infinite.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Metro 2033
>>320705916
There isn't a single game you can convince me of. I long made up my mind that those games had the best atmosphere in gaming. You are going to have to choose another category.
I grew up with BioShock so I have a special attachment to it, but Super Metroid takes the cake for me in terms of atmosphere.
>>320705159
Metroid series in general
REmake
SMTIV
Devil May Cry 1
Ico
Fatal Frame series (really, any survival horror worth its weight)
>>320705870
Might be the OST.

I think Silent Hill and Shadow of the Colossus are different categories of atmosphere honestly.
SH2 made me feel like there was a constant and depressing dread hanging over the place. Decay and isolation that made me both afraid of continuing and staying in the same place.
Sotc dealt with isolation, but there was a sense of wonder to it as well. Getting lost in forested ruins that are never really explained. Feels like being part of something greater that ended centuries ago.
Both great games, but accomplishing something very different.
>>320705159
Metro 2033.
>>320705159
Metro 2033 has the best atmosphere I've ever seen in a game.
>>320705524
>Same developer, spiritual sequel
>Rip off
Jesus fucking Christ.
>>320706726
>>320705524
"spiritual successor" everyone knows this, bioshock wasn't as interesting as ss2 but the detail in the levels was really good
I could take or leave the factory sections, but I loved the forested beginning of Limbo. Any life that looks like it could be friendly is just out of reach, while everything else hunts you down like you're just another insect.
>>320705159
>unnecessary cursing
YOU SURE SHOWED US.
Also,
>Fallout 2
>>320705159
I wish that Infinite could have had an atmosphere more like the first Bioshock. I still had fun with it, but all the scavenging and shooting at everything that moves feels like it would have been prime for exploring another ominous world gone mad.

Majora's Mask
New Vegas
>>320705159
Bioshock 2

I like Bioshock well enough but Thief is atmosphere: the game
>>320707256
Shut up you poofta cunt
Well, of course it has the most atmosphere.
It's at the bottom of the ocean, it has hundreds of atmospheres.
>>320705159
Beyond Good and Evil let you cruise around and take pictures of whales in space. What more do people want?
>>320705159
Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
>>320705159
what does have a better atmosphere
bioshock or metroid prime?
>>320707871
really? my only knowledge of that game is the sarkeesian video. that sounds pretty great
Cue a whole thread of people thinking "atmosphere" can only mean dark, spooky, horror, etc.
>>320706726
>>320705694
>>320707045
None of you are saying he is wrong about atmosphere :3
>>320705809

>Shadow of the Colossus
You know i could easily create some promos for tf2, if you could give me good images of the items you want made.
Half-Life 2
Ori and the Blind Forest
>>320708142
maybe they agree with him, they are just saying that it isnt a ripoff
>>320708231
>Half-Life 2
Before or after they cut half the game?
>>320705159
Stalker shoc with foggy wheather, wind blowing the grass, spooky ambient and emptiness.
>>320705159
System Shock 2 for starters
Thief 1 and 2
STALKER
Demon's Souls
SH2
Ico/SotC
Pathologic
off the top of my head
>>320705159
Babbis first game thread?
>>320708291
After. There's nothing realistic about a black and blatantly dystopian City 17.

SOMA
>>320705159
I feel like bioshocks atmosphere is initially better than ss2's, but as you play the game it gets duller as you get used to the environment and enemies.
with ss2 each deck is pretty varied and you encounter new enemies constantly which keeps it creepy
>>320708559
man arx fatalis was pretty fun I should try playing it again, but fuck that quest where you try to save the little girl
>>320707970
Haven't seen the video mentioned, but I enjoyed it. Classic platforming, some likable characters, fun environment to explore, etc.
The only real weaknesses I recall were some frustrating mini-games and a post-credits scene that hinted at a sequel that has yet to come.
