What are some games with big, comfy open worlds to explore?

Pic somewhat related.

Wow it's like I posted "somewhat" related for a reason. I literally just Googled 'open world' and though this one was pretty. Threads need images.

Many driving games have lots of open road to drive around in if thats your style. Burnout Paradise, Driver San Fransisco are two good ones.

For RPG games, I loved the open world of Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning

If you dont mind indie bullshit Kairo is really cool. Just walk around and solve puzzles with ambient sounds in the background. It was like a dollar.

I'll try and swing the balance back against the shitposting.

Probably not what you're after because to me "comfy" means "miserable hellscape that I can play from bed with hot chocolate and feel happy I'm not there"

All three of the STALKER games have some degree of comfy worlds to explore. I mean, literally, not comfy at all, but it's nice to wander around the depressing russian drizzle-scape while cuddled up in a duvet. Call of Pripyat is the most free-roamy.

Modded Skyrim is pretty good but generally the amount of mods required is tedious to install and either breaks the game completely or removes all challenge, so this is only recommended if you're into modding.

Don't Starve is fun if you want 2d iso, multiplayer even more so if you've got friends.

Witcher 3 is pretty good at making you feel like you're part of an actually living open world.
>>
>>320705493
I remember I thought the chocobo garden in FF13 to be comfy.
Flotsam tavern in The Witcher 2.
Every test chamber in Talos Principle (due to plot)
>>
>>320705634
I've actually been meaning to pick up The Witcher 3. Did they fix the combat from 2? Seeing my sword go straight through enemies and do no damage because I wasn't targeting them was some A-grade bullshit.
>>
I think comfy is new buzzword
>>
>>320705818
Ah, I forgot Metro Last Light. The floating city was one of the comfiest places I ever encountered due to its clusterfuckness and depressingness
>>
I always found Oblivion to be comfy as fuck, even if it was only grass and trees most of the time.
>>
>>320705890
I think buzzword is new buzzword
>>
>>320705942
Oblivion for me was particular because there was something in music and graphics that made me extremely uneasy. I finished it only for achievements.
I never felt so bad with a game
>>
>>320705849
The combat's not bad, but it's not fantastic either. It's a small step up from 2, but it really needs to be, as you're fighting much larger groups of enemies much more often.

The real thing to buy the game for is the open world. It's the best one of this generation IMO. It's funny how much a couple of changes can breathe life into a world - in particular, the choice to make all buildings in the same map (rather than having separate areas load when you enter) is fantastic - it means you can watch people through windows, people walk in and out of buildings naturally, and all the spacial stuff feels much more robust. There's lots of problems with the game, but the strength of the open world (and some of the early quests) are worth the price alone.

If you don't mind playing a broken game that will never be finished, then the DayZ standalone is comfy as hell. Sometimes I like to go on empty servers so I don't have to worry about getting shot and just explore. Also you can camp and go fishing in that game.
>>
Gothic 1-3 and Risen are the only open world, in the sense of being one connected map freely traversable, games where I enjoy that aspect. They aren't "open world" in terms of gameplay (i.e. copy-pasted formula quests with minimap icons, ubishit)

cataclysm DDA has endless procedural worlds, build your own deathmobile and run over zombies. rollerblade through towns. explore mine shafts. immense crafting system, roleplaying options, mods etc. basically the full realization of every survival game except its singleplayer

and 2d

sweet tilesets though.

All these memes need to die
The only game I've ever played that did Open World well was New Vegas and that's because they specifically designed the flow of every pathway on the map.

I personally like it to be a little less cluttered, and more open like OPs pic. It has a calming landscape effect while I play. It also makes me feel like I'm traveling farther distances in the game as I explore.
