Why is GTA III's soundtrack so shitty? Nearly all of it was made by some guy in rockstar and sounded so low budget and bad/unfitting for the game.

The only stations with licensed music, if I recall, were MSX (which is shitty U WOT M8 core), Game FM (mediocre hip hop made by some random no names) and Double Cleff (nobody listens to classical music in a GTA game unless you are those fedora wearing spergs who thinks he's a classy mafia hitman or some shit). The only good station was K-Jah, but it pretty unfitting for the game (The Scientist is still GOAT dub)

Rise is pure 90s trance, which is alot better then most of the garbage that is being made now since its considered "in" by the same faggots that listened to dubstep and migrated
and MSX was DnB which they accidentally made known brought to the states, it might have been the fact that they used Timecodes 01.1 album, which is really fucking great. Rockstar themselves admit its one of their most loved stations that they ever made, but it can never really be used again since it doesn't fit anywhere in the newer GTAs and modern DnB is different compared to 10-20 years.

The oldies station in GTAIII is actually the entire soundtrack to Scarface. Really good.

GTA3 was hype of the pure sort. Company is a moderate success in gen 5, decides to try and break ground with the pennies and modest fan base they've saved up, shows it off for the first time and the world catches on immediately. GTA3 got hype by earning it, not resting on laurels.

As a drum & bass head, MSX was on the verge of being a bit too bland and repetitive. Midnight Club 3, also Rockstar, did a drum & bass station much, much better. Even if it wasn't completely underground drug addict raver music, they could've put some early '00 pop flavor DnB in there. GTA3 came out in October 2001, stuff like Kosheen came out in September 2001. The way GTA does radio stations is basically a long mix with commercials, and it would be absolutely amazing to see a DnB set done that way.

All the numbered GTAs starting with 3 have god awful sountracks.
Vice city's theme and soundtrack were so well intertwined that it's hard to disassociate the two.
San Andreas's soundtrack was decent but felt slightly disjointed to me, but still very good and thematic though.
3, 4 and 5 dont have many memorable songs. Even the psp spinoffs had better soundtracks.
