PC gamers, devs know since the beginning that PC users shit on anything even on games that they want, Dark Souls and GTA V where a clear example that even if the game has tons of petition about a port PC will shit on it, pirate as fuck and blame the game.

It turns out ironically Dark Souls was a big hit with casual audiences.
It sold more and got more popular which brought a wider fanbase with more shitters.
PC doesn't have much to do with it, big daddys with havels and flip rings were around years before the pc release.

Demon's Souls was a pretty bleak and serious game, didn't really have a lot of humorous things to joke about.
Dark Souls by contrast was basically a fucking comedy game in disguise as a horror game, with Fromsoft adding a lot more comedic and quirky elements to it, so naturally there are going to be more memes and community jokes.

It got popular with those whom did not play the first Demon's Souls so xbox fans got a taste of the combat some liked it and so on, when it hit the PC it had more potential because we all know no PC gamer will ever touch a console.
Since souls games got popular it got the attention of casuals, I wondered how and why it happen but it did. I would argue that they have a special kind of feel with the art that most people can be attracted to the games.
So to give more of an example, Lords of the Fallen is a Souls clone but did not have the special feel of a souls game, since the special feel is how alone you really are and the art, so if you have the gameplay but not the art or the special forever alone feel, it will not work. Also the pvp made your heart burn.
I unironically enjoyed OnlyAfro's videos.
