Hey /v/, I want to emulate a good RPG for DS. Pic related. What are the best out there?
>>
>>320633132
you just posted it

RH and TWEWY are the only DS JRPGS that come close to the snes/ps1 golden age
>>
Etrian Odyssey
>>
>>320633398
isn't Etrian Oddyssey just a dungeon grinder?
>>
>>320633557
yes
>>
>>320633557
It isn't
>>
>>320633282
the art style of TWEWY turns me off, is it really a good enough game to look past that?

you too casual for an old school style dungeon crawler? also best SMT incoming
>>
>>320633807
what's fun about tedious dungeon crawling? why force yourself
>>
>>320633132
This game would have been perfect with different talksprites for each character. Damn.
>>
>>320633694
Not really. It's highly overrated around here for whatever reason.
>>
>>320633994
Nothing tedious about it. You're just convinced that is the case
>>
>>320634297
so far I've downloaded Trace Memory, SMT Strange Journey, Devil Survivor, and Tales of Hearts. Which Etrian Odyssey? I, II, or III?
I'm gonna be playing the game I like the most out these on a very long bus ride.
>>
>>320634608
All EO games are good. If you plan to play the whole series, start from the beginning, each one improves from the previous. If not, go ahead and play III
>>
>>320633132
All its Dragon Quests.

Both Devil Survivors, plus SMT Strange Journey.

The Fire Emblem 1 and 2 remakes. The second one in particular (Hikari to Kage no Eiyu) is fantastic.

From the top of my head.
>>
>>320634608
If you just want to play an EO game go with 3. If you want to play the whole series make sure you play them in order, the later games add some quality of life stuff that makes playing the older ones feel tedious.
>>
>>320633557
Yes, and not a good one at that. It has no story, cheap midi soundtrack and over-all just spreadsheet gameplay.
Now it's not like you have much choice on DS. Why limit yourself to good RPG on a single system?
>>
>>320633694
Not at all. >>320635190 here, by the way.

It's full emo shit with annoying mechanics, horrible art and a rabidly annoying fanbase. Including Brianna Wu.

It might be the most overrated game in history.
>>
>>320635320
because I have a piss-cheap laptop that can only emulate GBA or DS. I have a real DS, SNES, GC, Wii, PS, PS2, and PS3 at home- but I've lived away from "home" for like five years so this is the best I can do m8. When I'm not so poor I'd like to buy a 3DS though.

Fire Emblem and EO3 now downloaded.

Radiant Historia's great, good taste.

Give this a try. Most people give up when they fail to complete the freaking tutorials, but if you actually play it it's a nice little gem, a personal favourite. 2 main story paths, 4 endings, and you keep all your shit for NG+.
>>
>>320635784
Play all the GBA Castlevanias and then the DS ones, then. Not RPGs, but hey, there's a week or two of fun.

But a good GBA RPG is Summon Night Swordcraft Story. Even better if you play as Pratty with Sugar as your beast.

Pokemon Black/White 2 and Heart Gold/Soul Silver, if you haven't already.

You didn't recommend DQ4. Besides 'revolutionized' something doesn't mean it's worth playing. That's like saying Treasure Island is a good book just because it revolutionized its genre.

DQIV is on the DS, you retard.

And while it's true that just because something is revolutionary it doesn't necessarily mean it's worth playing, DQIV IS definitely worth playing. All the DS DQ remakes are... and to be fair, while not amazing or anything, IX is a pretty fun one too.

Though of course, I'd still rather play IV on the NES and V and VI on the SNES, but the thread is about the DS, and they got released there.
>>
>>320640827
... Ah, yeah, I meant FE3. Which is the real sequel to FE1, which is why I got confused. Sorry about that.
>>
>>320641290
You didn't recommend DQ4.
>while not amazing or anything
What's the point? If it's forgettable archaic trash. Just leave it there. There's no reason to get semantics over that. If it's not worth it it's not worth it. Just move on. Just because you wasted your free time on it doesn't mean others should. Life is too short to play spreadsheet simulators.
>>
>emulate
>he doesn't have a DSTwo

shiggy diggy
>>
>>320638641
Ok I found my list like thing..

-Sands Of Destruction is often overlooked, but I think it is worth playing if you can get into it. It's overlooked in the fact that aside from a few year old forum posts I've never seen anyone even mention it. Dragon girl is easily best girl

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue rescue team or Explorers of Sky. Personally only finished Red, but it is surprisingly good.

Dragon Quest IX is pretty cliché and the final boss wasn't very fun, but it offers some good choices for party customisation.

Valkyrie Profile - Covenant of the Plume is fun so far as well, but I haven't gotten far enough to really judge it fairly.

There is obviously more DS games, but they're either already mentioned or not an RPG
>>
>>320641520
>You didn't recommend DQ4.
I recommended "All its [the DS'] Dragon Quests". Which includes IV.

>If it's forgettable archaic trash. Just leave it there
And IX is not.

It's just not as good as most of its predecessors. But it's still got a great story, a fuckton of content, great music, an enjoyable atmosphere and very memorable scenes - which make it not forgettable at all. And the most varied character customization in any DS game, if I'm not mistaken. And hundreds of hours of post-game missions.

If the IV, V and VIII weren't so amazing, IX WOULD be considered amazing. But those are pretty tough to beat.
>>
>>320641449
no worries m8, just don't want to spread false info.
It's also confusing because FE3 technically contains FE1 in it as well.
It's weird.
FE12 is fantastic though
>>
>>320642148
>which includes
you didn't recommend 4.

I'm sorry but you're so ignorant no one should take your opinion seriously.
>>
>>320643631
How in the fuck did I not recommend IV?

I recommended all the DS DQs, which are IV, V, VI and IX.
>>
>>320644019
You recommended 'all of them' which is the same as recommending none of them.
>>
>>320641923
>Sands Of Destruction
I've seen that now and then at bargain prices in shop corners, and I've always considered it but never actually picked it up. Instead I bought Rondo of Swords, Suikoden Tierkreis, Radiant Historia, and Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Endless Frontier out of those areas instead.

Love them all.
>>
>>320644113
The fuck are you saying? Some sort of NLP/PUA sophistry?

I recommended all the DS DQs, which doesn't mean "none". It means 4 of them.

I'm done.

>>
>>320633132
Devil Survivor's probably the best SRPG on the DS. Fuck, it's remake is probably the best SRPG on the 3DS as well.

As some other anons have said, Etrian Odyssey 3's probably the best starting place for a newcomer to the series. It's the most balanced out of the DS games, has the most content and a fair number of quality-of-life improvements over it's predecessors.

>>320636618
This is pretty fucking good too. Probably the best FE game that I've played.

>>320641923
>Sands of Destruction
Alright game, but from what I remember the difficulty curve in that game was everywhere.
>Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Great series, playing Super right now. Sky's the best in the series, by far.
>DQ9
If you don't mind the weak story and somewhat heavy focus on Wi-Fi content for postgame and shit, it's a fun ride. I had more fun playing DQ5 than 9 though.
>>
>>320645219
>the anime was enjoyable
What? the only thing the anime showed was how bad the story was. stop spoonfeeding faggots. Then again, saying the anime was enjoyable only proves my point further. That no one hear has a clue.

>>320645364
>how should i know
google
>>
>>320645161
Naw, just a great reason to START playing it. Once you get past the first hour of the game, the narrative takes off and it's surprisingly well-written, right up until the final boss when it loses a bit of quality.
And personally, I loved the characters. They were the most enjoyable part, along with the big reveal and shitstorm in the middle of the game. That turning point was brilliantly handled.
I even really like all of the dub voices, except maybe two or three characters.

It's a great game, and I've had a lot of fun with it. Gonna start NG+ soon.
>>
>>320644862
Sands of Destruction was fun, but I never said it was that great of a game. It's just an RPG DS game OP could easily emulate.

>>320646120
Yeah the difficulty in Sands of Destruction was all over the place. It's also very clichéd and it's easy to guess what is going to happen, but I still enjoyed the whole game.

There is nothing wrong with a watching/playing a clichéd story every now and then.
