Seriously, how do I finish the main quest of Fallout 4 the quickest.
Gathering settlements is not fun. Please advice.

Dtphase has the speedrunning down.
Basically the game is "flaggy":
You HAVE TO save Nick to get Kellogg to spawn
You HAVE TO kill Kellogg and do the brain-sequence to spawn Virgil
You HAVE TO make the teleporter to get to the institute
And so on, without console commands..

The minutemen have the shortest quest, actually. Get enough settlements, defend the castle, then go in and nuke the place.

After doing the completing all faction endings I have to say it's The Brootherhood, all action and no filler unlike the boring build ups and unnecessary crap the other factions make you do

Killing everything in the institute doesn't seem to factor into it,
Quickest path to endgame is doing the Minutemen main quest, if you've gotten good with them they should give you some undercover shit and a quest or two later it's over..

Thanks for the info! I guess I'll go gather some more settlements then. Only problem is that I don't have any more of the "Help the people at X" quests. So I have no way of recruiting more settlements...
Perhaps I need to raise the happiness level in the ones I have?

No, once you've taken back the Castle there's a while before Sturges or Preston sends you to the Castle for the quest "Old Guns"
After that quest you're good to do the last quests. Don't have to touch a settlement after the Castle is retaken..

Not him, but I remember that if you already explored/cleared out an area where he gives those shitty quests, IIRC, he doesn't give the quest for that area or something.
At least that's the way it seemed to me when I explored a bunch of areas prior to him giving me the quest in one playthrough.

This is what I did:

He's exaggerating like a faggot, true, but a lot of them are invincible, like A LOT, the most in any Bethesda game so far. Like what was wrong with Morrowind's system? Just have a message that come up telling you they were part of a quest and to reload a save if you want.
It also doesn't help that many of the npcs are so insufferable and annoying that you just want to kill them so you don't have to listen to them anymore.
