I liked Disgaea 1 and 2 on PS2 (prefered 2), and Disgaea 1 and 2 remakes on the PSP (preferred 2, again. I like my healers getting experience from healing)

Go with 3 since it'll be hard to go back to it if you do 4 firs. Also if its the vita version you are playing you can get some new characters in 4 if you have 3's save data on your card.
Get the one with female Laharl the titty demon.
Skip 3 and D2, they're garbage. 4 and 5 are bretty gud. IMO 4 is the pinaccle of the series, dual fusion magichange is just too much fun.

Pretty much same feelings. But considering how much you enjoyed improved gameplay, I really just say go with chronological order.
I just started clearing post game in 3rd one (after playing 1st and 2nd), loving every bit of it - story and mechanically wise.
Managed to check 5th demo, and oh boy mechanics get even better. Don't make same mistake and play chronologically so you always find better mechanics with each iteration without spoiling yourself with them beforehand.

If you're planning on playing all, go in release order (3, 4, D2, 5), because changes/updates in mechanics will make it harder to go back to previous games. If you're playing the Vita port of 4, you may play D2 first since they added some of the stuff from there, mainly the cheat shop.
Other than that, 3 and 4 change the way weapon skills are learned and there's no weapon mastery there; each character has a forte in certain weapon and can "buy" skills for those weapons only. Learning skills from other characters changes from how it was in the first two games. D2 goes back to weapon mastery. Have played too little of 5 so I can't really remember if mastery is there too. All 4 games have healers getting exp from healing.
4 has the most content of all the games, and it's pretty polished, specially the Vita port. Lots of people complain about 3 in both story and gameplay, specially the PS3 version. D2 has good gameplay and the main 3 characters from the first game, but the story is kinda meh.
