Snake's reveal was the most insane by far. He was revealed in the first trailer, before we even knew 3rd parties were an option. Truly legendary amounts of hype.
As for more recent ones, Mega Man's was both unexpected and fitting. Pac-Man was a pretty cool addition too, but the Bamco partnership already kind of foreshadowed it.

Snake. Bayo is my favourite, but the Snake reveal is otherworldly.
This is a game that, at the time, was known exclusively for it's Nintendo-singular all-star roster. It's a fucking Nintendo game full of Nintendo characters and a homage to Nintendo's entire software/IP history. It's post-E3 conference where everybody believes Nintendo has already dropped their loads, and here's a bunch of journos sitting behind closed doors watching a new trailer for the new Smash Bros. It goes through the motions; familiar shit, improved graphics (for Wii), and a bunch of awesome new Nintendo characters. Fuck yeah, Pit! Fuck yeah, Metaknight! Wario! Good mix of classics and surprises. New stages. New setpieces. Nintendogs assist trophy. Final smash looks awesome. All the shit people had come to love about Smash with a bunch of new surprises. Trailer ends, Smash Bros Brawl logo appears on the screen, awesome new theme ends triumphantly.

Snake truly takes the top spot. Absolutely nobody knew he was going to be revealed or that third party characters where a possible thing. Both Sonic and Mega Man are tied imo, mainly because thanks to snake, a lot of people were expecting SOMETHING. Bayo is up there, followed by cloud, and ryu.

Most people and myself thought that Bayonetta couldn't get in because she was too lewd and inappropriate. Definitely. I think that's apart of why Snake's reveal was so great. With the newer reveals there was a lot of predictions and hoping for certain characters, like Bayonetta (still loved get reveal though). Not really, he just lacked the shock factor all the other characters had. Mega Man was pronounced dead upon Inafune's departure, and a lot of us honestly expected Pac's redesign, and definitely didn't expect him to be the arcade namci rep. Snake, Cloud, Sonic, and Bayo all speak for themselves.
The problem is Ryu lacked that shock factor all other third party characters had. Capcom already had a rep, and Ryu was such a no brainer his reveal was underwhelming. He's not a bad character or addition by any means, but he certainly lacks the wow factor the others had.

Bayonneta again because no one's going to expect her to get back in probably. Her moves look pretty solid, it would be a waste if they make another one without her.
I'll say though, if they did something like "all smash dlc is capable of working on later smash games" then I'd probably be overwhelmed with joy. The fact that you have to pay extra for both 3ds and WiiU version of DLC pretty much shatters that dream though.

Snake was the biggest surprise. People shit their seats.
Sonic was half expected after Snake. Also I can't remember if there was a Sega leak of information, as there usually is.
Mega Man was the second biggest surprise, and it was especially made beautiful by both his classic design being animated so flawlessly and after the horrific treatment Capcom had given him recently.
Pac-man was far more expected than Sonic was, specifically due to Namco's involvement in the game's development. Once Mega Man was in, Pac-man was a sure in. It was just a matter of whether it'd be his classic or modern design. They chose the better one for sure.
Ryu was a surprise but not a shit-your-seats surprise like Snake or Mega-Man. He basically opened the gates for any third party character to be possible.
Cloud was surprising in that you'd think they'd pick a character that was more Nintendo related, like the Chocobo or Geno. This feels more like an advertisement for FF7 Remake than anything, and makes me question if Ryu is just an ad for SFV.
Bayonetta is important to the Wii U so she gets a pass that Ryu and Cloud don't hold. She still feels out of place, more than Snake or Ryu ever could, but she's definitely a better pick than most pople Smash Ballet picks.
Snake > Mega Man > Bayonetta > Sonic > Pac-man > Ryu > Cloud
Snake easily. Sonic wasn't as huge and who the reveals for 4 wasn't as great as Brawl, at least for me personally.

I really wish Sonic had a better trailer/reveal than the media going "oh Sonic's in Brawl btw", and then the dojo updating to include him. Imagine if they'd done it up like Snake's reveal, or later like Megaman's.
I figure it's because he was apparently added in so late, but it felt rushed. As for best trailer, I've got to give it to Snake and Mega Man, though, with Pac Man as a close second to those two.
They were all pretty sweet in their own ways, though.
