It's not god awful,but it has very clear problems that may or may not affect your enjoyment:
-The camera spergs out in combat very ofen
-Smallest amount of artes in any tales game
-Story makes no sense sometimes,generally not very good
-Combat is like a downgraded graces f. still fun tho
-The game forces you into specific parties at the start of some boss battles VERY often
-Not much content compared to previous tales
-The area design is horrible,they're far too large with nothing in them and sorey moves too slowly,even with the speed up field ability

When compared to other titles in the series, it is very bad. The battle system forces party members, the fusion system is broken, you can't pull of decent combos because you're limited to 4 attacks (you need a skill called Exceed to allow more than 4 attacks but requires grinding), B.Artes are stronger than A.Artes for some reason, severe lack of artes and mapping options for it and most of all, the Camera is fucking trash
I still enjoyed it to some degree, but it's probably the worst mainline Tales game. I say try it out at least.
Tales of Berseria is looking pretty good. Hoping it gets released on PC soon enough.

It's a very lukewarm game with alot of features that could've been more polished. Real time battlefields is a cool idea but the camera will get stuck on shit 1/10 times. The fields are big and a little more interesting than xillia's but there are less interesting towns between them. The dualization system sounds cool on paper but it'll be ignored by 90% of players because of how needlessly convoluted it is.
On the upside it has the best tales game ost I've ever heard, and alot of the sidequests/plotpoints tend to deconstruct typical tales cliches (although it doesn't escape being cliche itself). If you like tales you'll like it, if you've never played tales there are better places to start.

Like others already pointed out, the camera is fucking horrible, it will get stuck almost all the time in close places.
I really liked the characters tho, and Edna is the best girl.
