Considering SF4 saved pc gaming by making profitable a japanese console port on it and opening the gate for the great comeback of Japanese devs, maybe SFV could help Linux.

Considering games run up to 50% worse on it with similar hardware. They have to buy support till Vulkan is released and Khronos is being slow as fuck with no ETA for the SDK.

If you arent a pirate, its FREE!!!
If you are a pirate, it has no considerable benefits.

Some slight advantages, some slight disadvantages. A few big disadvantages - less software, many games dont run well on it, some hardware doesnt run well on it.

Basically if you switch to Linux for any reason other than to save money, you are making a mistake.

As a professional programmer, I disagree with your disagreement.
Windows actually is better for programming as well, unless you do C.
There is just more software available, and what is available is more stable and runs better.

What if it's just because I like it more.

Windows 7 was just shitty.
Windows 8 GUI caused seizures to the elderly and the young.
Windows 10 spies on you in such a blatant way that they're not even hiding anymore.
Windows 11 will probably request you to hand over your wife to the local petty lord under threat of showing her and your employer your ./prn folder.

Banter aside, switching to Linux is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm glad my ex introduced me to it.

It's more user friendly than people usually think.

Mate I've written for elevators, wheel chairs and slot machines, and I've done front&backend web apps and fat SQL side scripts, I know my stuff. No reason to use Linux over Windows unless you do C. Leave that shit to the admins, not worth it for a programmer.
>>
>>320525335
Customization is one aspect yes, but also the fact I don't have to restart when there's updates, everything updates at once, the interface is much more fluid and faster (MATE here), and I can install it on practically anything and use it for practically anything. I could run a fucking IRC server off my Wii if I wanted to with it.
>>

>>320529424
>>320529083
Wasn't there something annoying wit Testing that you don't get updates during a freeze or something?

I have it installed on a computer but not long enough to have experienced such a freeze period, if it exists.
>>
>>320517852
Because as someone who has to code for a living, compiling shit on Linux is a lot easier than the overbloated Windows. Porting to Loonix saves time for those who have to constantly switch OSes
>>
>>320532216
That just means that during the 'freeze' you're temporarily 'Debian Stable', right? Is that of any relevance?

If you have your sources.list with 'Testing' instead of whatever the Debian release name is it's being freezed, you never leave 'Testing'. The old-Testing release freezes, then becomes 'Stable', but yours (Testing) keeps rolling.

Someone correct me, please. I didn't experience major disruptions during the freeze, so I can't say much about that period.

Isn't that Alienware Steam machine qutie a bit cheaper than the same box with Windows?
>>
>>320534632
The value in Windows is hardware driver certs and software compatibility.

Linux simply can't compete in this domain until hardware manufacturers make a concentrated effort to push open source code. A few vendors like AMD seem to be doing this, but in general it'll never work out.

Linux doesn't have piss poor power management because their developers are lazy; its because the hardware people don't open up their devices
>>

LMDE is based on Debian Stable, which isn't rolling release at all.

LMDE used to be based on Debian Testing, which is semi-rolling release. The "semi-" is because packages are constantly updated until the Debian maintainers call a "freeze". When the freeze happens, Debian Testing is transitioning into Debian Stable so the only package updates that are accepted are security updates.

So that other guy was correct. Sid is truly rolling release because packages are constantly being updated and there isn't a freeze.

I can't think of any other Debian-based distro that's truly rolling release.
