Also when FF7 came out it was aiming to be as OTT and anime as possible with its combat despite being ATB. The clunky combat of Soul games wouldn't fit the game, regardless of how much you like it.

souls combat works for games with a single character, not a party of three
turn based combat is the best if you want full control over everyone

Are you retarded? Souls combat system only works in Souls games because Dying is part of the process. It is slow, cluncky, the hitboxes are complete shit after 4 iterations, If FFVII had Souls combat, Cloud would never be able to lift his buster sword.
