Hey /v/. Has anyone else here played last remnant? I'm playing through now and Im loving it.
>>
>>320468019
How? I got it on steam and I could barely tolerate it.
>>
Definitely an acquired taste.

It's not for everyone. I enjoyed it though.
>>
>>320468019
You might wanna look up some of the game's hidden mechanics, you can accidentally screw yourself over if you're not paying some attention.

That being said I still did a full blind playthrough and beat the game without much issue. Thing has one of the best combat systems I've seen in an RPG with one of the best music systems. Shit's neat.

>>
>>320468165
I like the whole class system/level system, the combat I find fun and entertaining if not a tad repetitive. I like the story so far, some characters I kinda love already. Emma and David so far are pushing this game into the love area for me.
>>
It's one of, if not the, best JRPG ever made.

Interesting combat system, high challenge with anti grinding mechanics, huge parties of unique characters, battles are pure spectacle, fantastic ost, nice explorable world

only worth playing on pc though
>>
>>320468413
Hidden Mechanics? Oh boy..
>>
>>320468484
It's not terrible, it's just awkward how your team members learn new things, and there is a weapon specialization that will pigeon hole you into using one weapon type.

I also think your playstyle changes what some characters learn? Really, I don't remember it being too harsh.

>>320468467
It's awesome how the game manages to be hard without being cheap.

Make sure you grind alot early in the game instead of late game when the enemies are hard and give less EXP. Just take the extra time to grind alot early in and you shouldn't have any problems later on. And some Side-Quests are missible so do them as some as you can. Its a great game.

i'm not even sure about this game. i'm enjoying it but it seems like i'm either lucky with some battles or unlucky. gotta keep morale up and make sure you at least deadlock an enemy or those flank attacks will be the death of you i guess
>>
>>320468796
I am about to defend Celeplais from the Conqueror at Eagles Nest. How many quests would you reckon I couldve missed?
>>
>>320469108

He's fucking with you, grinding is the worst thing you can do in this game, the enemies will just outclass you immediately, making it impossible to progress.
>>
>>320469108
Probably not a ton by that point, but get ready, the Eagles Nest is were the game actually gets hard and it's the point where a lot of people end up dropping the game.

Here's a tip attack side unions until you can get Daveed's super attack.
>>
I reached the six bases and abandoned it out of pure desperation. Good game, tho.
>>
>>320469264
Im already like battle rank 26 and its hard as hell for some fights.. geez.
>>320469305
I feel a little weak here, I have three groups of 4, can revive from each group so I usually just cycle through but get rekt towards the end or RNG fucked me
>>
Oh yeah, whats the best Jorgen to get? Djin?
>>
>>320469108
DO NOT GRIND UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
I REPEAT
DO NOT GRIND
IF YOU TRY TO ABUSE STANDARD JRPG CONVENTIONS THE GAME WILL NOT HESITATE TO FUCK YOUR MOUTH

This anon is about right>>320469305. I had to start over again cause i missed a good deal. And not doing all the side quests in a game would keep me up at night.
>>
>>320469519
So Story over side quests? Or just ignore enemies?
>>
>>320469568
Do sidequests because they can be important and get you some really good shit. And don't ignore enemies, Just don't go out of your way to murder things over and over to get stronk, because everything else will just get stronker.
>>
TLR aka Better have a second screen with the wiki open because you'll miss 90% of the game otherwis : The Game.

Still love it though.
>>
>>320469264
>>320469519
It's not as severe in the PC version guys, they tweaked some shit to make grinding less of a fuck you.

>>320469568
You can fight whatever fine, and do as many side quests as you want, just don't constantly run through one area to gain levels. It will level up your battle rank more than it will give you levels, which is what makes the game harder.

... Welp how late is too late to stop that? Cause thats what I did till this point. Didnt "grind" just killed most if not all things in area...

Get your level up higher you're still too week for where you're at in the game. Get to like Lvl 40-45 or 50. Thats when you really start recking shit hard
>>
>>320469834
>Didnt "grind" just killed most if not all things in area...
then you're doing fine
>>
>If you level up, game gets much harder to the point of impossible
>But you need to kill things to get stuff to improve gear
>Thus you will level up
What were they thinking?
>>
Bought it for the 360 the other day to fill out the 'buy 2 get 1' free deal at fucking Gamestop. Haven't gotten around to playing it as I can't ass myself to hook the console up.

Been collecting the Xbox360 JRPGs while they are still cheap as shit. Got Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon for only a few bucks the month before and they are both in pristine shape.
>>
>>320469938
probably
>I don't want people to brute force their way through my game
it's really not that baffling
>>
>>320470001
Lost Odyssey is their answer to FF and I loved it
>>
>>320469938
>if you abuse the leveling system by grinding, the game becomes harder

Sounds to me like the were trying to subvert the standard JRPG difficulty curve.
>>

Yeah, I was happy to finally get ahold of it and in such good shape. Hoping to find Culdcept Saga for cheap now, but I've never seen it anywhere.

Lucky for me I love this one

>>
>>320470479
I haven't seen Culdcept out much and price has went up since it's our of print. Make sure to jump on Magna Carta if you see it for around 20. Spectral Force is usually cheap if you can find it. Gamestop was doing it for around 8 dollars a while ago.
>>
>>320470457
>You need to grind to get gear upgrades so your members won't be useless in bossfight
>But the material drop is RNG
Good plan
>>
>>320470783
I really enjoyed the variety of battle themes the game had. It made the battles feel very dynamic as the music would change to fit the situations. The fact that it plays when going from Low morale to high morale and pressing your advantage is why I like Reversal so much

>play TLR for the first time when it got ported to PC
>no guides
>no understanding of mechanics
>clear it like ezpz

>play it a few month ago after reading guides
>suddenly get my shit pushed in

I don't know if I should blame myself for getting too old for games or for looking up those hidden requirements for learning moves and spells.
>>
>>320470989
nah man, guides are not as required as people like to make them out to be. Even with being able to miss a ton of the games content it still has plenty to offer. I played for 80 hours without a guide, I KNOW I missed a bunch of shit and I don't care, I had a blast with what I found myself

Im looking at the hidden requirements for class changes now and I dont wanna know this anymore. I wanna go back to freely being able to build my character without feeling like im wasting time
>>
>>320470989
Sounds like one of those games where you have more fun not understanding what's going on, as once you actually know what to do then you end up wasting time fulfilling hidden conditions and hunting down shit than enjoying yourself.

just stop, play the game on instinct and let things happen naturally. It's really not a hard enough game to warrant obsessing over mastering hidden mechanics. They designed the game to be beaten without you knowing any of that shit, so just don't worry about it
Just go with it

Im closing the wiki now. Thank you. One last question, what items should I give to Jorgen?
>>
>>320468796
What? The last time there was a thread many people said don't over level too early or else that screws you over late game. Which is it?
>>
>>320471478
wish I could help you there, I played this shit like 7 years ago

grind bad
>>
Definitely one of the most memorable moments of any video game is the very first fight, as David's army, before the game explains any of the mechanics to you.

The amount of "what the fuck is going on" had me laughing hysterically.

Game's not for everyone but I think it's great.

>>320469938
That's not even true with the PC version, you can grind if you want and it won't totally fuck you into an unwinnable endgame. It's just the 360 version where you get fucked.
>>
>>320468796
>make sure you grind a lot
>it's a great game

eeeehhhhh?
>>
What are some other games on that kind of scale? like bigger then a single party of adventurers but not like you're just controlling an army.
>>
>>320470001
Is Blue Dragon okay? I've been pretty much doing the same thing. Now I pretty much have OP's game, Lost Odyssey, Ninety-Nine Nights 1 and 2, Resonance of Fate, White Knight Chronicles, Infinite Undiscovery, and Genji: Days of the Blade. I know most of these are bad, but they were cheap and I wanted to try them out.
>>
>>320473828
get Eternal Sonata as well, you play as Frederic Chopin.
>>
its not that grinding is bad

you just need to grind right

last remnant wants you to fight a whole bunch of enemies at once with that time slowing linking mechanic

fighting one enemy at a time and grinding that way is what self destructs you, raising battle rank without granting many bonuses
>>
>>320473828
>Resonance of Fate/Lost Odyssey
>Bad
Nope.
