I do wonder how well Mother 1 sold on the eShop here. I know it cost Nintendo nothing since it was the version they already translated but it would be interesting to see how well it sold. Personally I don't see Nintendo working on a localization of Mother 3 and as >>320448816 pointed out they will never touch the fan translation of it. The best thing we got was Itoi talking about Earthbound Beginnings at E3. And that really was a dick move on Nintendo's part 2 years ago with Reggie burning a guy for asking Nintendo to localize their own fucking game.
Why would you even want an official translation? Nintendo would just cut out the Magypsies and whatever other content triggers the SJW crowd, while pointlessly renaming characters, and generally fucking up the writing.

If NoA was to put mother 3 on the Eshop, they will somehow shoehorn memes to it.
Nintendo is between a rock and a hard place regarding Mother 3.
If they do localize Mother 3 it most likely will lose them money. As much as people love to say it won't I feel Nintendo is right on it losing money.
Also people will just be comparing NoA localization with Tomato's one. And will be nitpicking it to death.
That being said Nintendo's fans have slowly just stop caring about Nintendo. They feel Nintendo doesn't really care about the fans. I mean just look at how they are using Metroid (not just Federation Force but Other M as well). So them localizing Mother 3 is a good move on just making the fans happy and hopefully regaining some level of confidence that they have been losing for a long time.
