There are so many problems with Skyrim that it just makes playing as a shady character who commits crime so boring.
Like the thieves guild, you go break into houses (and there are like 20 houses in the whole game) and take a bunch of random clutter, then sell it for 1-2 gold a piece. If you ever go back into those houses they'll be barren for the rest of time. No one ever acknowledges that all their earthly possessions have been taken, and no one cares.
The DB is even more boring. You kill people and no one gives a shit. There's no wider implications. You just kill to complete the quests. Your character never regrets their actions. What's worse is that you can wear the DB clothes and no one gives a shit. Hell, you can wear the thieves guild clothes and no one gives a shit either.
You can be the head of the thieves guild, the head of the DB, and be a thane in every hold, plus the head of the mage's college and a storm cloak or an imperial war hero and everyone will treat you like you're just some random asshole street urchin.
