No, but this isn't as in-depth as an Armored core game it never was trying to be. You have a ton of weapon customizability (which changes the arts your mech has) though.
I wish I could tell you more but I only have the basic mech you get (which you can customize still but it doesn't have access to all the features).

You can change the colors and the name but that's it really, unless you count changing all of its weapons. There are also augments like the first Xenoblade too, but that isn't an appearance thing.

The combat is improved from Xenoblade Chronicles, it's very nuanced and expands on what that game did.
The sense of player progression is much better because you get to pilot a mech, which starts out on the ground and then you can develop aerial capabilities.
Another cool thing is that basically right after the start of the game you can go ANYWHERE you can reach on foot, which is a huge amount of the 5 continents. Some areas can only be reached by flying, or by jumping in your mech but if you want to get your ass pushed in you can run to areas with crazy high level enemies. It's nice to have an RPG where that's possible again.
