Why have no videogames ever used Shakespeare as a source?

>Macbeth and Richard III murdering simulator
>Big battles in Henry V and Coriolanus
>Being an utter dickhead that ruins lives in Othello or King Lear

Even as VN I think it could be pretty entertaining. Is it just too highbrow for vidya?

Because it wouldn't fucking work in the medium you fucking dunce.
For every piece of action in Shakespear there are at least 500 lines of dialogue.

I would like the see more novels given the video game treatment, Voice acting in parts, a small bit of interaction, nice visuals, extras that give a little peak into the time period

Mabinogi gave it a try for an entire season and 4 generations.

The first two were kinda just 1:1 with Hamlet and R&J but you got attacked by the grim reaper every now and again who comes to fuck up everything because Shakespeare is a prisoner of the gods.

Then they used Macbeth and The Merchent of Venice for two more generations, and instead of being 1:1's they used them as sort of story frames and used other characters in place, people liked that half better if I recall.

Why do people think Shakepeare was highbrow? Because it's old?
His plays were entertainment for the masses. They have a lot of toilet humour in them.

I think the problem is if you can do it in a way that won't make you, the creator, seem like an idiot. Are you gonna use 100% Shakespeare lines? for a VN sure, and that seems like a good idea, but for anything else that's gonna be tricky. And so- are You gonna write lines and put them into shakespeare and trust that you live up to his standards?

>Why do people think Shakepeare was highbrow

I guess because it uses archaic language. Also, don't try to imply his soliloquies weren't GOAT. Even if it did have more base humour sometimes he's a 10/10 wordsmith.
>>
>>320380169
I guarantee you that many of them have. It may not be explicit, but tons of plotlines that get used in modern books, TV, movies and video games have roots in Shakespeare's work.
>>
>>320384912
I think you mean "niggers," anon

although people who ironically speak like them are a part of the problem too now

>>320384560
good structure, and he's also responsible for many words that entered the English language

the sonnets aren't "entertainment for the masses" and are usually pretty deep when they're not verbose porn for patron X

>Why have no videogames ever used Shakespeare as a source?

I feel like Blood Omen took quite a few things from Shakespearean literature. The game even references Hamlet in one easter egg.
>>
If they made a Macbeth game that was 100% true to the source material, I would totally be fine with an episodic release. There is most certainly a justifiable amount of content that would need to be split, AND they'd be in acts.

In before

>>

First episode has nonstop action. Maybe a little downtime for dialogue.
Second episode is the fallout after the action.
Third episode is the tension and buildup to the ending.
Fourth episode is the ending.

I'm not saying his plays were bad, not at all, but they were definitely mass entertainment.
>>
>>320380169

Cooking with Titus.
>>
>>320388051
Mass entertainment doesn't stop something being highbrow anyway; Liszt was considered one of the most advanced pianists of his age, yet his stuff was the "we want the Call of Duty audience" of piano designed for a mass audience

Hardly any art or music considered highbrow today wasn't mass entertainment in its time. Dickens was also mass entertainment, as another example. His stories would be published in episodic format in newspapers and shit like any TV show.

Shakespearean dialogue isn't hard to write anon, you just need to be good at coming up with metaphors.

Metaphors are why scholars consider Shakespeare's works worth studying in the first place.
