you have to prove it is a transformative work, which if its a game all you have to do is say "I am playing the game" and youtube pretty much says okay. With out being partnered though with a multi channel network you have no way to fight any copyright claims made on your videos
Copyright claims are different then copyright strikes, claims means they claim they own the video and make money off of it instead of you. Strikes mean fuck you and your video and makes it private.

its easy they usually have a website, though please read the contract do not fall for the traps they set machinma is a big one to avoid. I personally do not join one because this is a hobby to me not a job.

you need a certain amount AND a high video view count per month. meaning you can have 10,000 subs and only one view a month and won't get partnered, but if you have 100 subs and 10,000 views a month they will defiantly want you because they want the ad revenue.

basically when you get partnered you pretty much have a quota, if you do not get a certain amount of views per month after your contract is up they won't renew it because your not making them any money. So you are forced to upload at a constant rate. the good news is if you get a good partner they will promote your channel and make it very easy to reach your monthly quota.
my friend has pretty much doubled in views and subs and when they heard he was planning to leave after his contract was up they offered him a way better deal.

I've had a channel just idling with nothing added to it for 8 years now.
It still somehow manages to get a couple thousand views every month.
Probably should have monetized it some years back, but was too much of a lazy fuck.
Think it'd be worth it now? Even if it was just a few bucks a month, I wouldn't mind that.
I have a newer account that I actually upload original, but niche content to that I thing would technically be more "worthy" to monetize, but that one I'd like to keep clean for now.

always start doing games you enjoy that are niche, if you decide to play the latest cod at launch for example NO ONE would watch because so many bigger channels are also doing Cod and the way youtube works the bigger you are the higher up in the results you are. A guy with 1 sub will never be the first result even if you type the channel name in the search bar.
now once you have a small audience you branch out into bigger games but still do not do cod. as you grow do more popular games. If you do not want to do face cam don't no one forces you to and if you do one you end up looking like a fag and becoming someone /v/ will mock

To be honest, i'm not expecting make it really big in the let's play market immediately, nor make a ton from the ad revenue, just to get in there and somewhat connect with people who have a share of passion of many games i grew up on.
