To answer your question though, I would play the PSX version if you have a PSX, If you have a PS4, it's the same as the PC version, so choose based on whether you like using a controller or not. If you only have a PC, then that's your only option anyway.

It's not as fucking vital as Crisis Core which fucking reveals one of the bigger twists of FF7's story, but just look at the year and it'll tell you everything you need to know.

Don't worry about it OP. FFVII has atmosphere like a mother fucker. I don't think you need all the twists intact to enjoy it.
Besides, you'll just get a different experience than most people playing the games in a different order. Might be pretty cool.

Yeah, okay. It's not the only option, but there's really no need to go to the trouble of emulating the PSX version, even though I prefer it. There changes to the different versions are minor, and if you do get the PC at least it addresses a few glitches.

Don't feel too bad. FF7's writing is pretty poor during some spots, and knowing what happened in CC will save you some time figuring out that plot point in the original game. There's plenty different about 7 vs. CC that'll still make a play through the original worth it.
