Because it's Ubisoft milking an established franchise. Squad is made by people who spent years turning ARMA and BF2 into a really fun experience, I kinda expected their project to be a love child of both rather than a half-assed clone.
>>
>>320229097
A little more arcade game that focus on teamplay and give the tools so random people can organize themselve in a decent fighting force.

Been playing it for the past 2 hours. It seems like a solid base for Project Reality 2, but it needs a year to catch up for features.

After that though, we got modern day Project Reality and I'm happy with that.

BF2's engine had limitations you know. This actually does serve a purpose.

The game is going to be legit, but it's just too lacking in content. I played the alpha for like 20 hours but I can only tolerate so much free fob AAS on tiny afghan map. When they get helos, armour and jets in the game it's going to be a seriously amazing experience, especially if a competitive scene pops up.

Played like 2200 hours of Project Reality desu.
>>
>>320229097
BF2PR was limited by being a mod to a closed source game. There was vehicle capacity limits, draw distance limit (affecting gameplay not just graphical quality), lack of all kinds of mechanics like dragging bodies, proper structure placement, projectile physics, decent flight physics, etc.

the point of the game is to essentially take BF2PR but make it better in every conceivable way.
>>

What complexity Arma3 has really? I only have 820 hours on it, played OFP, Armed Assault and Arma2 a lot more. I keep hearing that shit but I really wonder...

The controls are overcomplicated, movements are still way too clunky.

>physics are messed up in every vehicle
>the netcode is absolute crap
>perfomances are an absolute joke
>fire controls for jets and tanks are, except for thermals, WW2 tier technology
>body armor is still poorly simulated, so is vehicle armor
>no tactical reload, no accounting of last bullet in chamber
>inventory is a glitchy mess, gets you killed just as often as poor collision with vehicles and rocks do in multiplayer.
>engine can't even simulate underground bunkers, nor tunnels, you can only put hollow object in your map hoping it won't kill people randomly
Arma2 actually had some awesome mods but Arma3 still lags behind and you just can't remove the worst issues this game has.

>>320229097

Visuals are great and it runs good.

Netcode is excellent. During the Alpha I was playing on American servers without even noticing it.

Animations, body awareness is perfect.

It's a lot less clunky that BF2, I honesly stopped playing PR years ago because of that. They got away from many BF2 engine limitations moving to the EU4, very promising for the future.

Only problem with Squad so far is that it lacks content obviously... It's gonna get better of course but I doubt it'll ever reach PR's height in that regard.

Same situation as arma 2 to arma 3. PR to squad is just paying for pretty graphics and NO CONTENT.
>>
>>320234194
The stance adjustment system is complex in comparison to the rest, yet incredibly usefull and functional. Most vehicles while not perfect, have particular damage models compared to the rest combined ops games. Helicopter flight controls are more complex than the rest of combined ops games. Penetration modeling is great. Navigational opportunities are both there, are necessary and impactfull. Incredibly large scale makes it highly dependant on teamplay and modable to the point of adding complexity ontop like the healing system and object interaction.

Game is unpolished as fuck as you said and i have my own ideas how things should work as a long time player since OFP. But lets not suckle the cock of squad to make it look not as bare bones and a questionable purchase so early on.

Its definetly more aproachable than arma3 and hardly a comparison because of that as the pace of the game and a tone feels diffrent.

The success or failure will entirely be up to the community quality

PR only works because the community is scarily good. Both relaxed and patient with new people. Probably because they are so desperate for new blood and the mod is losing players.

Im putting my money on the community for Squad being shite. Being on steam it will be too mainstream.

So far it's pretty much PR gameplay wise. Except it gets rids of PR's clunkyness, adds way superior visual fidelity and an excellent netcode.

The target market is the same as PR would.

Unless you've been stuck in a timeloop or haven't played anything but BF2 in the last twelve years, it did age like shit. PR just feels clunky to play, hideous to watch and its player base shrinking.

So far content wise its pretty limited. But it's bound to improve throughout the early access.

>Arma2 actually had some awesome mods but Arma3 still lags behind and you just can't remove the worst issues this game has.
I frankly think that the Arma series is suffering from Engine Fatigue. Bohemia is still using the same tech as 14 years ago. Sure you can upgrade it all you want and that might be good for industrial use (MilSim for military like they used to) but I don't believe it's good anymore.
Upgrading an old engine is still as complicated as making a new one, maybe even more.
They should probably spend some time making a new engine or maybe use UE4 since it's deploying a lot of big scenario optimizations and data streaming.

Depends, to find it you'll have to specifically looks for "simulation" in the catalog.
So it means you have interest in it, it's all that matter.

I trained enough people on A2 to tell apart the kind of player that will make it and those who are a waste of time.

Not so relaxed... What I remember most from PR was the little corporals who would just push you around for not following their every single little instructions, worst case were the admin ones who kick because you don't use your mic.

Squad so far seems a lot more relaxed, although the teamplay is definitely there. I'm actually more encouraged to use my mic on this.

>>
>>320245678

No it's not.

The reloading animations are completely wrong, and made by someone who hasen't the slightest idea how these gun operate.

The game doesn't have tactical reload. It cannot be done in Arma games, because the Real Virtuality currently doesn't support multiple reload animations for a same weapon. They actually went into a lot of trouble just to finish up the under barrel grenade launcher animations.

>I don't know why you need bullet in chamber but theres a mod for it

Are you stupid? And no there a no mod for this.

No they aren't.

They aren't well made, but they are accurate.

I does now but they haven't moved it from Dev mode.

>there's no mod for it

yes there is

But you don't need tac reloading in a game where the animations are already fast as shit,.

The reload animations are not accurate, if you know anything but guns you would realize that.

They did refine the grenade launcher animations, but you still can't have more than the one reload animation per weapon.

And no, there isn't any mod simulation last bullet in chamber as far as I know. Either post a link or shut the fuck up.

King of the hill is the only fun game mode I've played on arma. 3 teams, upwards of 100 people, all fighting in the perimeter of a city. Your team has to have the most people in the city to get points for kills, first to 100 wins.

Sadly the game mode is a laggy piece of shit due to the sheer amount of people and I rarely get over 40 fps, so it hurts the game play a lot. Still by far the best game mode in Arma especially if you have some squads actually working together.

That faggot is edgy as fuck for coming into a thread with his ebin reaction images but let's face it. EA is not some sort of investment and is almost as stupid as pre-purchasing. If you buy EA games (like I do sometimes) you should at least be honest about it and not lie to yourself.

I've jumped on about 5 EA titles thusfar, including KF2 and Starbound and everytime it's the same disappointment.

We can have long discussions about how the whole EA concept doesn't work but in the end there are a few title for whom it does work and actual devs delivering.

Prison Architect and ARMA 3 comes to mind.

What if, just what if, Squad is another one. It does seem like another military shooter, but it'sn ot your battlefield nor call of duty and it's something you should check out if you're into FPS games. It does the realism immersion quite well to be frank.

Like you I'm well enough financially that I feel comfortable to spend that sort of money. The way I evaluate if a EA purchase is worth it is if I can get enough fun out of it in the current state that it is now and if I do that then I feel like I've got no problem with it. That's how I'd rate a released product as well.

I've been playing Squad all day today.
The sounds, visuals, most of the UI design and gun handling I'm quite happy with but when it comes to performance, not so much.

There's an absolutely huge map that just cripples frames and makes the game unplayable, its probably a few kilometers in size across and every game I've had on it has been an experience of an unstable crippling frame-rate, stuttering and at worse freezing for seconds at a time. I dropped graphics settings from high to minimum and that didn't help at all. I have a feeling the blame here is on the engine with such a big map combined with 50 players.
On the small 300m by 300m urban map performance is very playable but the stuttering is still there for me. 100 fps when the map was empty of players and on minimum graphics though.
i5 and a GTX 770, I may move it to an SSD later to see if that helps.

>there is no way to avoid getting shot unless you want to sit prone on a hill for 45 minutes at a time like the rest of your "squadmates"
You realise this game is supposed to simulate real life to some degree right? You seriously can't be stupid enough to just run alone at enemies hoping they wont shoot you right? Move with your squad, work with them, take it slow.
>good luck shooting back when only 2 people per squad are allowed an optic sight on their gun so enjoy squinting to be able to make out the pixels on the horizon to shoot back at
How about some very basic communication with your squad? Though since previously you said you don't like doing what your squad does I'm thinking you're not much of a team player. Try listening to people saying stuff like "enemies northwest" or "enemies 330" then look for movement, muzzle flashes or ask for someone to tell you exactly where they saw the enemy if you're totally hopeless
>did i mention you could have your entire 9 man squad on a point and you can't even begin to capture it if one retard from the enemy team is prone in a corner
>At least 3 players need to be within the capping radius of a CP to capture it – at the start of a round, a neutral CP can also be capped by one player alone. Cap time is approximately 60 seconds. The more players are inside the radius, the faster the CP is capped. If players from the opposite team are in the capping radius at the same time, players from the teams will cancel each other out. The team with more players in the radius will gradually take the CP.
From the manual

You're just fucking stupid and I probably shouldn't have even written this post because you seem to be ready to quit on the game which is the best option for all involved.

Ok. Revive and heal. Every soldier has a bandage to stop bleeding but only medics can restore health. If you get shot, bleed out or something you can get revived if a medic gets to you in time. If you get blown up by a grenade or shot raelly bad you can't be revived.
