Too many things to list, but the gits of the issues is the simplification of basically EVERYTHING ranging from the editor, the animation system, to obviously the fucking gameplay, which reduced a game with tons of potential into a shallow collection of crappy minigames tied together by a series of editors that lacked any gameplay impact, rendering them pretty pointless too.

I could go on for hours in regards to all the ways Spore failed, but there is hardly any point to that anymore.
This vid manages to bring out the level of simplification the game went trough pretty well:

So is the IP dead at this point?

Probably yeah. I doubt EA feels any need to ressurect it, seeing how it cost them tons of money to develop, and it was a big flop. Not to mention all the negative press EA gained from it due to the DRM shit, and how many people they disappointed with the end product.
Also, Will Wright left games and hasn't returned, after spore launched.

>there are people here on /v/ who were too young to be hyped for spore after seeing the 2005 demonstration.

Where has the time gone?

Other than the fact that a Gaming giant had his dreamed raped and destroyed by a gaming monopoly? Everything.

More importantly, why hasn't anyone made what Spore was supposed to be?

Insane over ambition?

I always forget that this was a thing.

Spore was one hell of a project, and ate shittons of money. And the end product didn't even manage to be what it was originally seeking to be.
There ain't no big studios willing to take the risk, and no indies skilled, or wealthy enough to hire people with the right skills, to try to recreate it.
>>
So why has nobody even tried to recreate a fun creature making game with stages of evolution and a world to populate complete with an ecosystem?

As dead as Maxis is.
