Oblivion is just as ugly once you're out in the open world. Drawdistance is terrible and all the mods I tried back then never worked. Or is there a good mod for that now ?

Oblivion is my personal favorite Elder Scrolls in terms of aesthetics (barring faces, of course). I absolutely loved the setting and architecture. As with any Bethesda game, the cities felt too small, including the Imperial City, but the architecture and lighting were top notch.
Why are people saying that Oblivion is so good now?
Sure it's good compared to the pile of shit that is Skyrim. But it's such a dumbed-down version of Morrowind basically. Sneaking mechanics aren't very fun. Same repetitive enemies. Combat provides zero challenge and has the depth of a puddle. The only thing they got right in regards to combat is the magic. Lots of cool spells and shit to play with, but again, zero challenge. Don't even get me started on the shitty voice acting and crippling lack of actor variety. Cookie cutter dungeons are a snooze fest. Outrageous amount of bugs. It's nearly impossible to mod the game without breaking everything.
Oblivion got a number of things right though compared to Skyrim. Way better writing and lore, and the quests were a lot more interesting.
Above all, the entire Elder Scrolls series is shit. Honestly. I understand the appeal but every one of the games fails to deliver.

Its an okay game modded, but thats after you've spent hours digging through 96% of the mods which are slut armors, slut companions, slutty movements, slutty spells, slut weapons, and countless sex mods. And the worst bit of all is there isn't a single mod that fixes the awful combat.
