Has anyone here tried the modern VR? If so, how is it? (No Virtual Boy memes pls)
It is incredibly immersive.
The way I feel right now is that if they can manage to produce even a handful of objectively decent games for the various headsets, and enough people try them, word of mouth alone will propel their acceptance.
Its something else when your brain is tricked into thinking it is inside a new environment.
It's amazing. I mean it's literally like playing with another dimension.
There are some games (horror games) which suck ass on a 2d monitor and you basically have to scare yourself but trust me in VR when you turn around and something is literally staring at you like 3 inches from your face it's a whole nother experience. Anyone on this site that memes against it has never tried it

Horror games are almost legitimately too intense in VR. I could see someone getting hurt or having a panic attack.

Yeah horror is a genre where I VR having an edge over 2d games and of course movies. I've literally never been as scared by a movie or game as I was the first time that I played dreadhalls on gearVR
It's on a whole nother level. Especially with good sorround headphones (and a game that supports some good ass sorround sound)
What >>320153745 says is real as fuck. I was never much of a horror game guy, but horror games in VR made me NOPE so hard I almost threw off the Occulus DK2 I was wearing.
They are still having a bit of problems with causing eyestrain and nausea for some people, but I already hear that the Samsung one is doing it really well. It will not take more than a year or two before every device is great, and then it will only get better.
I'm an avid horror games lover with a shit PC. How can I go about trying the VR without committing to buying everything?

If you have a new samsung phone you can get a Gear VR.
It uses the phone as a screen and works pretty well from what I understand. It is pretty weak though?
Not sure.
>>320154570
You don't, going balls deep is the only option.
>>320154570
My god once you play a horror game in VR you'll never go back to 2d
>>320154570
go to a convention or somewhere they are showcasing VR products. I went through a mall today where two samsung guys were showcasing their Gear VR thing. It probably wasn't a horror game, but hey

I'm not taunting you or anything, but horror in VR is something else entirely. You better be prepared.
I had tried several ones at CES this year but wasn't convinced. Refresh rate too low, too blurry, too many pixels visible. None of them felt quite right but I guess in a few years down the road they might get there.
I just can't see VR headsets take off for video games at this point. Perhaps for 3D movies or surveillance tasks.
VR is great.
We got a devkit at work and I used it. It's better than I thought it would be but if you're a resolution queen you won't like it. This was the oculus dk1. That horror game was incredible. It doesn't feel gimmicky because some games use the vr as an actual mechanic.

The gearVR is okay but feels limited and rushed. The screen resolution is bad enough to complain about and there's no sideways tilt because the gizmos in the phone can't work that way.

>We got a devkit at work
Get a real job.
Tried Incell, pretty fucking neat, looking forward to porn apps more than anything though
