Name a better made open world map
Tip:You probably can
>>320122585
Every Minecraft world
>>320122672
this for sure
>>320122672
sad but true
Skyrim's map is actually pretty decent, the problem is that there's little reason to explore it. Too many generic draugr ruins and bandit hideouts, and shitty levelled lists kill exploration anyway.
Fully modded Oblivion
Vvardenfell
San Andreas
>>320122585
Morrowind.
TW3.
In the end, invisible walls with separated regions are superior to yet another valley or island open world to me.
I pray for the day where GTA just looks like a continuous world and I can just run into an invisible wall instead. Is a body of water or an unclimbable mountain really any better? It just makes it claustrophobic.
>>320123023
>Fully modded Oblivion
modded oblivion is great but the world map remains a flat/slightly sloped forest
>>320122585
Skyrim was the best open world map until Fallout 4. Fallout 4 add a lot of verticality and density, we can expect Todd to dumb down TESVI even more but make an even better map.
You can say whatever you want about Bethesda, their animations, shit engine, shit writing, but their worlds are absolute masterpieces.
>>320123049
>I pray for the day where GTA just looks like a continuous world and I can just run into an invisible wall instead
Yeah crashing a plane into literally nothing sounds great
>>320123182
>Unique Landscapes
>Better Cities or Open Cities Reborn
>a thousand other landscape mods
>>320123268
I guess I didn't really think that through. Maybe GTA should stay island worlds, but the fantasy settings shouldn't.
>>320122585
Vvardenfell dude.
Easy. The Crew.
>>320123314
Unique landscapes is a fantastic mod but don't really change the actual exploration much, just makes certain locations a lot more pretty.
And there aren't a thousand other landscape mods. UL is pretty much what you got to ramp up the overworld exploration, aside from some stuff that add some villages with nothing in them.
>>320123268
Hmm... They could make have it so that when you cross a certain border, it gives whatever amount of time to turn back before instant death.
>>320122585
Why the fuck couldn't we use a map like this in-game? The shitty 3D map we were given was useless garbage.
>>320122585
This is bait
aside from obvious examples like The Witcher 3's map, even the other games in the TES series have better maps than Skyrim's.
>>320122585
Ultima 7
>>320124091
the game doesn't even have graphics though. i'm sure its a good game but it can't really compare to the likes of Skyrim or GTAV.
>>320122585
STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM
Fucking Bionis
>>320124328
>those natural borders
UNF
>>320124316
DUH.
At least it has good lores and gameplay unlike dumbed down RPG like Failout 4.
GTA V map is quite linear, I like SA more.
Skyrim map is pure shit if you compare with Daggerfall or Morrowind
>>320125905
I'm a big fan of Daggerfall but come on mate, nothing about that map is impressive aside from the scope
>>320124328
It's all over, lawbreaker! Your spree is at an end!
>mountains the size of two story buildings
>>320124091
>game series with wizard that auto kills you if you commit a crime
DROPPED
>>320124328
Man, looking at this reminds me of how empty Cyrodiil is.
Like, compare it to the Skyrim map. There are comfy little hamlets with 2-4 families residing all over the place, and the cities are really just trading posts that people built standing houses around with a wall to protect them from bandits. Compare that to Cyrodiil, not only with long-ass stretches of road with nothing interesting along them but huge 100 square mile chunks of land which are completely uninhabited and you have no reason to go there.
Cyrodiil looks and feels like the South Dakota of fantasy worlds.
>>320126545
>unironically defending Skyrim
>>320126265
this was so disappointing. throat of the world is supposed to be FUCKHUGE but then it's just a regular tiny mountain with just one path up it with a frost troll halfway. a game about fucking SKYRIM should have proper mountain hiking
>>320126613
>See that mountain? You can climb that mountain.
>In fact, you have to climb that mountain, its part of the main quest.
>>320126545
That said the Unique Landscapes mods were fucking glorious and it disappointed me greatly that Skyrim did not get anything of the sort.
I suppose being procedurally generated and empty was more of a call for people to fix, rather than 'kinda handmade but still terrible'.
>>320127060
I don't think Skyrim needed UL as bad as Oblivion did. The actual Skyrim world is fine, with some texture replacements there's a lot of beautiful sights but the quests and overall player motivation is ass so you end up not caring.
>>320122672
Why does minecraft have such beautiful worlds?
>>320123268
Saints row 2 gives you the message "The saints need you" then turns you around, that's a much better invisible wall in my opinion
>>320127272
True, but it was still mild. There's probably a mod for it, but at the very least there should have been real snow storms that could freeze you to death etc. Plus there's the whole dynamic snow nonsense that was missing.
But above else, if Skyrim could have just one mod transplanted from Oblivion I would go for the Better Cities mods.
Maybe it's a mix of memory and imagination, but I was kind of okay with the city size of Oblivion, and then that size (complete with NPC population) was boosted to actually impressive levels. Bravil became a glorious mess, Anvil's expanded docks and the general city made an already sweet location even better, the whole thing was fucking great.
And then some years later Skyrim comes out, all the cities are villages and the capital has twelve fucking buildings or whatever it was. Fucking disgraceful.Needless to mention all of that was dwarfed by Novigrad, but before I got there I was genuinely impressed even by Oxenfurt. That town just by itself could have been the capital city of a whole game.
>>320127892
There's a bunch of mods that enhances the Skyrim cities, but they mostly add clutter and stuff to make it seem more lively and interesting. Not sure if any add more houses. I never did install any better cities mods for oblivion ebcause I can't be assed with any compatibility issues.
>>320128117
Post installed mods
Nehrim is best so far beyond compare, but that might change with Enderal and more importantly the increasing popularity and now proven durability of this game concept
>>320128117
>jungle meme mod

ENDERAL WHEN
>>320128430
>potato faces are better than OCO2
this is the true meme
After roughly 600 hours I'm playing Dawn Guard for the very first time.
I'm actually enjoying myself again
>>320122585
>this map makes Skyrim's map seem bigger than it actually is
Didn't Helgen look like the larger and better fortified city in "Falkreath Hold?"
Why was the smaller city the seat of the jarl?
>>320128530
>>potato faces are better than OCO2
They are. OCO2 gives everyone even worse sameface than before and makes them look like plastic apes, pic related. Vanilla is fine and legitimately more realistic looking especially if you just add eyelashes. But whatever you're welcome to your shit taste.
>>320128696
I'm guessing since the Empire had control over it I'm assuming they kicked the Jarl out, or they left of their own accord.
>>320126545
>Like, compare it to the Skyrim map. There are comfy little hamlets with 2-4 families residing all over the place
Are you serious? Oblivion has more of those and they have actual stories, too.
>>320128789
I'd rather have sameface than samepotato, you guys are so weird with your hate sometimes
I disabled every mod once to test out some performance stuff and I had forgotten just how bad those faces looked, everyone looks like they have been bathing in acid
>>320128117
It's been ages but I never really had troubles caused by those mods. In fact some of the modders were pretty based and while working on different projects (i.e. one would add a bunch more generic NPCs to work on the farms, shop around do various tasks) they coordinated so they did not fuck over each other's content.
There were even two mods that did some massive works on the Imperial City to feel a bit more like the massive megapolis, and coordinated between them to be modular. Say, you liked the Garden District from one mod but the other districts by the other? No problem they worked together to make it possible. Some really based people were involved in Oblivion's modding.
There was even stuff like incorporating a third mod that added a Courier service and guild, a populated tunnel with shops and buildings connecting the Waterfront district and whatever bit of the Imperial City it was connected to, an aqueduct and springs etc.
I really gotta replay the game sometime.
>>320122585
>trees
>snow
>more trees
>more snow
im finnish if i wanted this shit i'd just go outside
>>320128696
Wasn't Dawnstar supposed to be one of the greatest port cities in the Empire?
>>320122585
Pic related.
I also wish they would have gone farther with the Hearthfire DLC. Let us rebuild or improve a small city into a new major hub.
For example choose between Dragon Bridge, Winterhodl and Helgen. Each has different starting position and stats in terms of resources and how easy it is to improve.
Helgen is easily accessible and in temperate climate. Dragon Bridge has a decent climate but on rocky soil, but is on the crossroads between Markarth, Whiterun and Solitude. Winterhold is practically laready a city in administration but lacks any ways to be self sufficient in agriculture, it does however have the college.
You affiliation with the Empire and/or Stormcloaks makes you able to pick policies for the cities, do you only invite Nords or do you keep it open for all settlers?
Fallout 4's settlements but fun and with the ability to be a racist scumlord.
See *your* city improve and blossom as you return to it.
>huge fucking mountain in the center meaning everything takes twice as long to get to
>everything is snow and rocks/trees
>guards are identical in every way and each town has maybe 1-2 dozen residents
>lack of enemy variety
I don't see it. There's countless open world games that make a better world. Skyrim was a chore to play because of the world and atmosphere, and not in a "you're meant to feel that way look how clever it is" way.
>>320129265
>Fallout 4's settlements but fun and with the ability to be a racist scumlord.
So, the Dunmer invasion of Skyrim?
>>320124328
>you will never live in Chorrol
>you will never rescue Dar-Ma from Hackdirt
>she will never touch your penis while you're asleep
>>320123268
uh what about a continuous world ... @_@ that you can fly fully around hence the word continuous.. fly right for long enough and you get to the left side of the map
>>320129265
Expect that in the next one since the engine now allows it. Also Levitation because jetpacks.
>>320122585
I do appreciate it. Well made fantasy maps are my fetish.
Why I buy TES but not Fallout
>>320129370
Whatever you like. I wanted to turn Helgen into my own Orc Stronghold and be a multiwife chieftain.
>>320129212
It's crazy how small the maps actually are compared to how big they feel. This really proves size isn't everything.
Skyrim is terrible desu. Not even hyperbole, it's a fucking bad game.
The thing I really didn't like about Better Cities was all the anime-haired NPCs it added. Other than that it was fantastic.
>>320122585
>Hammerfell
>Valenwood
>Black Marsh
>Summerset Isles
Literally the only remaining province I'm not excited for is Elsweyr
>>320130240
They all sound like metal bands.
>>320126545
Living in South Dakota I can agree with this somewhat, but cyrodiil is more empty than South Dakota in spots.
>>320128941
I prefer the first OCO at the moment, even though 2 looks a lot better overall some of the mad anime hair and tattoos put me off a bit. Also I seem to remember the new version having clipping issues with orc teeth sticking through the mouths. Has this been fixed?
>>320122672
It's empty as fuck.
>>320129021
Where I live, in Canada, kinda makes me think of Finland.
>>320129212
Mein Neger.
Heck Gothic 3 had a great world too.
>>320129812
PB are the greatest at world building, where others just go wider and wider, they squeeze as much as they can into every 1m3 of their games.
>>320132564
>PB are the greatest at world building, where others just go wider and wider, they squeeze as much as they can into every 1m3 of their games.
Let's see if they can pull it off again with Elex.
