Will ZE3 use spritework or re-use VLR engine?

VLR was supposed to be 2D but was 3D because they thought 2D couldn't pull neat 3D effects.

i hope they use sprites, low detail models are ugly as shit

I just want the old style back.

Surprisingly, this.
I actually really enjoyed the original's artwork. The 3D models felt a little awkward, especially since they were only ever reusing the same animations to begin with-- it wasn't like they needed the models to ever do anything more than just set reaction animations or occasionally be posed in a scene. With the low level of actual use / need for active rendering they got in VLR, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was actually more time efficient to just hand draw it all. Plus having all the spritework back would maybe make things a little more expressive and unique between scenes.

At any rate, everyone here on /v/ better drop their NEETbux on this game- if anyone pirates it you'll be contributing to the death of the one saving grace of modern vidya.

also pic unrelated, I just shooped it last week so I like posting it around for no raisin

Surely hope that's not the case.

the faces do too

they can only do basic, over exaggerated emoting. Look at their fucking fish eyes, if you covered up the lower half of your face, would you be able to tell at all what emotion they are conveying? Conversely, sprites receive much more care and because you can easily alter them pixel by pixel, you can show a much, much wider array of complex emotions.

Plus, look at alices necklace or the adornments on her skirt. They look like they were soldered on, it looks messy and jarring, the necklace in particular looks like it was welded onto her skin

and the hair looks like shit, it's like everyone is wearing a sculpture on their head, and I don't expect them to have HairFX or anything but when the alternative (sprites) can make flowing hair and natural looking standing hair, why opt for the uglier looking one? (don't answer that with "time/budget" because we are talking about what we want, what would make the product better, and doing a little more work would pay off immensely)

VLR was going to be 2D but they decided to go with 3D to try to pull of 3D effects on the 3DS because they didn't know at the time if 2D could also pull 3D effects on the system.
But from what they said about "they learned from that experience" and how "they realized you can do neat 3D effects with 2D" it's more than likely that ZE3 will be 2D this time.

Also it's not like this game is getting a sequel anyway so I doubt they really are concerned with selling a lot to guarantee future titles. I'll still buy it, though

I understood Sigma's mindjumps perfectly but I didn't fucking understand Phi's ones at all.

Can someone explain to me what her mindjumps are? Like, where did everything begin and what version of her will be in ZE3?

So are you guys just gonna leave the internet when ZTD hits Japan before the West?

I live in Europe and I ordered the Watch Edition from Amazon US, so sadly I have to do it anyhow.

Why would it? ZE3 was revealed in America by Aksys and the audience is here. Why would those ungrateful nip fucks get the game first?

Sometime between Christmas and New Year 2028 > jumps to when VLR starts > jumps when she's attacked by Akane > jumps back to April 2029 > spends 45 years frozen > jumps back to 2028 right before VLR starts > now

I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.
It's pretty much the same as Sigma's route.
>>
>Sprites would probably remind people too much of the cardboard cut outs from Dangan Ronpa.

But at the same time the models are pretty gay.
>>
What if they could keep 3D backgrounds and escape rooms with 2D characters?

Escape rooms were much better in 3D than 2D.
>>
>>320109406
this, and I still got something spoiled, I don't remember what
>>
>>320109697
Yes, they follow the same route, with the exception that while Sigma was building the Nonary Game, Phi was frozen for 45 years.
>>
>>320111092
Yeah, I think it's interesting that we'll finally properly meet Doctor Sigma in ZE3 rather than his VLR self.
One thing I'm a little iffy about is that it won't feel like a full mystery like VLR because we already know most of the background and setting and how shit will happen.
>>
>>320111397
I'm sure that there's going to be plenty of mystery, that's one thing I'm not worried about.

Agreed. 3D backgrounds were MUCH more useful for keeping track of your surroundings while the camera was panning. God damn jumps from one shot to another in 999 made me disoriented as fuck when it came to piecing the actual room together.

actually, I never finished 999. I got like, two or three endings (Submarine, Axe and something else(?)) and then decided I couldn't put up with doing another whole fucking playthrough from scratch on a dinky emulator. Which is fucking stupid, because now that VLR is out I wish to god it actually did make you do multiple playthroughs, at least a bit, because being able to just jump about like crazy makes the story feel a whole lot weaker to me...

am I missing out on a lot by not having played through the puzzles of the last few rooms? Plus I never understood the "sinister hand" tip since I never experienced myself- only really experienced the last 1/4 of 999 secondhand through walkthroughs/wikis.

At the time, I naively assumed that it was just a standard multiple-endings game and that playing through to one ending was going to get me roughly the same content as doing any of the others- I had no idea it would be so exquisitely branched as to have basically a completely different game's worth of content behind the fork.
>>
>>320112652
>I wish to god it actually did make you do multiple playthroughs
It does.
Why the fuck would I like to replay the same scenes I already played? I'd just be speeding shit up until the decision like in 999.
I got sick of the 3rd class cabin.

The point of jumping in VLR is to gather information in other timelines to use them in other timelines. Ergo the story locks and decisions to ally or betray. Shit you do in different endings in 999 doesn't actually fucking matter except for needing the Safe ending before the true

Also in the scenario that they stop the virus from spreading, that would mean VLR would not exist. Then what would happen to Phi and Sigma's consciousness from VLR? Would they just vanish? Go back to the alternate future? Stay in their bodies?

Also I have this crazy idea that somehow Luna's consciousness will be able to go back to the past and replace Diana. Don't know, I just want Luna to come back. If they stop the virus then she'll never exist.

As Uchikoshi said, Akane is practically not even human at this point

Think about it- Living through all those timelines, seeing the births and deaths of everyone you know or care about over and over again, witnessing the destruction of your home and entire world endless times, struggling through torture (and mind bending puzzles) in a desperate attempt to defy the fate of the universe itself and shift the burdens of causality to avert a cataclysm you never asked for in a role you never wanted, all because you're the only person with the power to change it- at that point, you're not human anymore. I would be very surprised if Akane even knew what love even meant at that point- or rather if she hadn't understood it so fully that it had unraveled and lost all meaning. Akane will never be happy- but she's willing to spend her whole existence trying to restore everyone elses' ability to be.

>>320112963
Honestly the biggest question to me is who Brother is. It's probably someone we know, but I don't really have a clue
>>
>>320113330
Tenmyoldy touches on this towards the end of VLR. He's a little stubborn- he has some small amount of pride at having faced the odds and managed to eke out some small degree of happiness with him and Quark. He knows that the branched timeline is the better one, and yet he seemed to me a touch reluctant to have it happen. It's like he's lived through this, dangit, and he doesn't want to denounce his whole life just because an alternate reality could be better.
>>
>>320113681
>implying it obviously isn't Santa and the cult is inextricably linked to Akane and his Wacky Timeline Adventures (tm) having some unforeseen consequence of starting a cult around the brother and sister esper duo

Steve Stone statement on who is Alice and if that shit was just a legend or not. No maybe.
And why do they even bother with project if it will only affect one timeline. Do you think there will be some kind of merge in the end?
