Let's have a good ol' vidya music thread, but with a catch.
MIDI only.
Post your best MIDI tracks, friends.
I honestly believe the limited resources of MIDI really allowed composers to be creative and create some amazing soundtracks with more atmosphere then any orchestra could ever possibly hope to achieve.

Bonus points because it has a Christmas theme.
I've really got to sit down and play all of Legend of Dragoon sometime, because this OST is amazing.

Replaying Dark Cloud on PS4 has reminded me how good the music is, that even after 18+ floors of the same dungeon, I still enjoy the BGM.
>Dark Cloud - Own Forest

Owl Forest, sorry
Cosmo Canyon is still one of my favourite songs ever. I even listened hundreds of times before ever playing FF7.

Had the same sort of experience with FF9, listening to You're Not Alone literally hundreds of times after playing the game, but completely missed the song when playing through it the first time... despite it being in a mandatory section of the game.
Guess I wasn't listening.

I listen to this song from time to time. have never played the game though. in fact I haven't played any of the ps1 final fantasies despite owning them. the thing that's holding me back from playing them is the fact that I already know a lot of the major plot points. I wonder if it would still be worth it?

7 and 9 are worth playing just for the sheer amount of character and world development, they feel like real adventures. Knowing the context for the music and attaching memories to them is probably worthwhile too.
8 isn't worth playing as much. The combat system either has the option of a steep learning curve if you've got no idea, or if you look it up earlier and find the most efficient ways to do stuff. Also enemies level with you. Fuck that.
Also the story and characters suck. But whatever.
Play 7 and 9 at least.

I fucking love the music in Ape Escape.
I've always thought MIDI was interesting because technologically it's inherently inferior to live instrument recordings, and yet way more of my favorite video game songs are MIDI. The limitations of early video game system soundchips forced composers to really have to write a great composition if they wanted the music to stand out.

I really think FFX was pretty much the pinnacle of MIDi, and then it just kind of started to disappear because suddenly storage space wasn't an issue any more...
