Can someone tell me the appeal of this game?
>boring music
>annoying as fuck background voices throughout pretty much every section of the game
>next to no characterization of any characters within the game
>hacking system that takes way to much time
>tired weapons
>only 5 enemy types within the whole game, even though the idea of body modification would have allowed for more

I think we can agree that Bioshock was the better spiritual System Shock successor
>>
>great atmosphere
>cool art
>decent characters
>good lore
what else do you need
>>
>>320081545

It's fun
>>
>>320081545
>I think we can agree that Bioshock was the better spiritual System Shock successor
well no shit. Did you think HR was supposed to be the successor to SS? Why even type that
>>
Should I play this despite never playing the original? I feel obligated to since Mankind Divided is coming out next year.
>>
>>320082170
Sure
>>
>>320082170
Yeah, it's a prequel so you don't really need to know anything.
>>
>>320082284
>>320082407
Really? I honestly expected you people to tell me that I'm retarded and should play the original first. Are you guys sure?
>>
>>320082731
Who cares. They're both solid games. If anything, playing the more accessible one will wet your appetite and help you play the original. Because if you haven't played it yet, you'll be really turned off by how clunky it is.

It's better than HR, but it's from a different era.
>>
>>320082731
it's good. You'll miss out on some foreshadowing but it's definitely a standalone title.

protip: get the EMP armor.
>>
>>320082934
>>320083339
Alright, I guess I will. One more thing...
Should I get the Wii U version? I can get it for other platforms, but I feel like I should get it for Wii U since the director's cut was originally going to be exclusive and it seems like a cool novelty.
>>
>>320082731
I played HR first, even though the original had been sitting in my backlog for years at that point. I definitely made me want to play the original. You won't miss out on anything, but you'll definitely enjoy it more if you did play the original first. It's just little lore pieces like emails about characters from DE and stuff like that.

Alright, then what do I get it for? I heard the PC version has problems, though. Did it get fixed?
>>
>>320084903
What issues? I'm OP and it hasn't had any issues thus far.
>>
>>320084903
the directors cut is a bad pc port and they made the graphics worse for some reason

the actual original version of the game is one of the better pc ports out there IMO
>>
>>320085076
I just heard that there were some problems around the time it got released, but I don't know if they got fixed. I can't remember what problems they were, either.
To tell you guys the truth, my toaster probably can't run it, but what do I know?
>>
It's a real fun game. I don't remember too many memorable lines or moments from the main story but it was enjoyable to play.
>>
>>320082170
Make sure you give Invisible War a fair shake, it's not as bad as people will say.

I found HR to be comfy as fuck. Also nothing like that first step you take out of your helicopter thing and hearing this song as you enter the rooftop pads of lower Hengsha.

>>
>>320081545
>boring music
that's just your opinion man. It's ominous and comfy and I think it complements the atmosphere well. Compare to lots of cyberpunk media which has overbearing techno.

>annoying as fuck background noises
it's called ambiance

>next to no characterization
Not really true. Everyone has decently fleshed out backstories and distinct personalities. The only character who's really flat is Adam but he's supposed to be a vessel for the player so it doesn't really bother me. Besides the point of cyberpunk is that it explores themes bigger than any person, it's not supposed to be a character study

>hacking system that takes way too much time
Either you didn't invest in hacking augments or you are just dumb

>tired weapons
I haven't played too many games with explosive revolvers and flechette SMGs. It's true there could have been more guns

>only 5 enemy types
also true. I hope there are crazy augmented enemies in the new game

>System Shock
This game has nothing to do with System Shock

WHICH VERSION?

bioshock is a retarded faggot fantasy game.

while Deus Ex is actually a realistic science fiction game.

that is the difference. I have NEVER and will NEVER play a fantasy faggot game. they all have to be realistic or have a high probability of realism before i decide to play the game.

Cyberpunk >> the shit genre bioshit is. (steampunk i think)

and for this same reason in the real world you will NEVER encounter more than five "enemy types" what you want a fucking dragon enemy? along with zombies, those mutant child girls or whatever the fuck that was, that faggot in the ADS? fucking faggot.

The piss filter works. The art style is based around it. There's this subtle cell shading effect, it really isn't a bad thing.

DC adds has reworked bosses (now you can stealth them)

In original killing bosses didn't count so could still get full stealth achievements and such

DC also fucked up graphics, yellow filter is important in that game.
>>
>>320082731
You are retarded and should play the first, but you only gain subtle nods and shit by playing it so human revolution stands on its own just fine.

I feel like I should be excited for the new Deus Ex, but I'm just not. Not even a little.

I loved Deus Ex 1, I've played it 5 times over. I loved HR, and played it 3 times through. But Despite seeing a lot of the new one, I couldn't give a shit.

Actually makes me sad.

Now I feel stupid for giving away the copy of the original I had. I gave it up with a bunch of other useless games for store credit at a local game store because they had something I really wanted. I figured I could just pick up the DC, but now I've seen the light, and that light says that I'm a giant bumbling retard.

so get the DC then you dummy. The piss filter is still there and the graphics are still great for a game released that long ago. I'm not sure what the other anon is meming about.

You also get the Missing Link DLC, which I thought was pretty good. Just pirate the DC edition son
>>
>>320092782
Too true.
This year was depressing. Currently drowning my video sorrows in the Elder Meme Online. I actually really enjoy it.
>>
>>320081545
generic shooter #413445

wheres the deus ex game that is like the original
>>
>>320082170
I think most people who played it did so before playing the original. The plot is barely connected to DE1 so don't worry about missing anything because of that
>>
>>320083602
I have the wii u version. I can't really compare to the other versions because I never played them but I think it's pretty decent, at least on the wii u. The only thing that uses the game pad we'll is the hacking thing though.
>>
>>320093079
you can mod away the piss filter from any version
>>
>>320093085

Gross.

I'm dicking around in WoW.

Got my warlock to 100 in 2 days from 90, and got her to ilvl660 thanks to Timewalker event.

This game's become a disgusting joke.

>>320093591
Right, but an anon up the reply chain said that the DC took out the filter, as if that was somehow not a good thing.

I'm just trying to show that the DC is the definitive version
>>
>>320093680
Original is less buggy, and is good if you appreciate the art style. Also some of the main dlc mission breaks up the flow of the game something aweful, so skipping it is nice

DC re balances a few things, removes the filter and adds in all the dlc/pre-order content. So if you want a longer game, albeit one that's a bit buggier and looks worse get the DC. It also comes with the commentary which is nice
>>
>>320093680
I don't understand why you wouldn't get the DC. The bosses, the main gripe about the original, have been reworked to allow for different playstyles, it comes with all the DLC and implements it organically in the story, and the dev commentary is cool and adds replayability.

I don't understand why people still prefer the original
>>
>>320093792
They should have made a piss toggle, to be honest.

I vastly prefer the piss edition.
>>
>>320094274
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I can appreciate the game's actual art style without the yellow filter. Same reason why I take off the green/yellow filter in the fallout games
>>
>>320094367
But the art style was designed with the piss filter in mind.

In fact, the sequel will use BOTH colour schemes depending on the area. There are places in the game that are pure piss, and other places that are sterile hospital lighting.

It makes no sense to remove it from the first game because it is the keystone of the artsyle. Look at the cover of the game, for example.
>>
>>320094715
The DC still had plenty of gold though, and in places that actually made sense for it to have it. It makes sense for the Hive, or even all of shanghai, for that matter, to have it. It didn't need it in rundown nigger territory, or whatever the final level was.

I thought the DC was more subtle than the OG, which was just in your face all the time.

And they based the game around the gold color scheme, silly goose. Not a passive color filter on top of the camera.
>>
>>320095159
>more subtle than the OG
I meant to type "with the colors" somewhere in that sentence, obviously

The enemy AI in this game is unbelievably shit, if they see you they just stand in place and fire at your last known position constantly, waiting for you to pop out and kill them. They don't try to flank or pursue you at all, at least the enemies in the first game did.
