Wait, those objectives... theoretically you could kill the bird with the gun and then realise you have no other way around. With early platformers jumping was your only option so it's easier to connect "jump on enemy" with "jump on enemy to get across".
In a way, the second one is actually harder since you'd just shoot the bird on sight and then realise afterwards you need to jump on it to get across.
So you kill yourself on the spikes to restart the level and do it properly.
